Acorn is currently offering a rare opportunity to work for a design and manufacturing company in Swindon as a Quality Control Lead.


Hours:
Monday - Friday


Pay:
£28,000 - £32,000 per annum


Role responsibilities:

  • Meticulously meeting the quality standards set by the company and customer expectations
  • Proactively improve product quality standards through the process of quality control
  • Ensure that all product ordered is fit for purpose, consistent and meets both internal standards and specification, but also the expectations of our clients
  • Develop and maintain current quality control standards and actively improve these
  • To act as the first point of contact for quality issues for the company supply and manufacturing base
  • Actively improve the supplier and manufacturing standards without incurring any increase in product or material cost
  • Actively maintain and build supplier relations to increase product quality
  • To conduct quality control checks in line with the company standards for any product and/ or material required
  • Ensure a good communication and resolution to all QC issues between thirdparty QC agencies and Far East supplybase
  • Create a quality control master document that identifies critical areas of interest in quality for each product
  • Monitor and advise on the performance of the quality control system and develop this accordingly
  • Liaise with internal departments to execute the quality control process
  • Have key involvement with and attend manufacturing facilities when required to carry out quality control inspections
  • Carry out inspections within a timely fashion, without affecting prototyping or production time
  • Liaise with suppliers / manufacturers and internal teams to determine product and material quality
  • Support equipment development through quality standards
  • Manage product, material, and logistics for product deemed as substandard or requiring further quality control inspection
  • Advocate quality control to internal and external customers, demonstrating cost, lean manufacturing and risk assessment benefits

Key activities:

  • Reviewing technical specifications and client requirement and ensuring these are met in manufacturing production
  • Working closely with the design team and purchasing staff to establish requirements from suppliers / manufacturers
  • Setting standards for quality as well as considering health and safety in all instances
  • Ensuring that manufacturing and production processes meet the required standards determined by the company and it's clients
  • Determining areas of improvement; reducing product waste (material and time) and increasing manufacturing efficiency
  • Define quality procedures around all product ranges and with internal departments (Sales, design and procurement)
  • Establishing and maintaining controls and document procedures in the function of quality control
  • Using relevant tools to establish and identify a clear and unbiased view of product and manufacturing quality
  • Advocate for cost benefits and consequences within communication that demonstrates to others the importance of risk assessment, prevention and corrective action

Administration:

  • Provide quality control reports which accurately assess and identify product quality and suitability, measured against the product specification and performance requirements
  • Maintaining an accurate quality control report system, documenting and recording all QC checks in both UK, Europe and Far East Supply
  • Provide and maintain a weekly tracking document for quality controlled product. This will detail what quality controls inspections have been carried out, a summary of the results, pass / fail rates and details of the supplier / manufacturer responsible. If a fail the value of the credit that is being requested and a breakdown of potential cost reimbursement
  • This will include all labour and transport costs incurred and also a charge for QC work undertaken that we will expect the split to pay. Where an item fails a credit must be received within 4 weeks of failure date

Requirements:


  • Degree educated or comparable qualification and / or experience
  • 5 GCSE grades A/B or O Levels, including English and Maths
  • Extensive experience in retail equipment / interiors or comparable industry
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft packages
  • Strong experience in quality control role / inspections and quality reporting
  • Ability to read and interpret technical design packages and manufacturing details to allow full and accurate quality control inspections to be carried out
  • Detailed understanding of manufacturing and finishing details
