The Role

Their Onshore Renewables team work with a variety of clients to provide consultancy services, primarily in the areas of power system analysis and grid connection studies, including: load flow; fault level; dynamic G99/Grid Code compliance studies such as faultride through, voltage control, and frequency response; power quality assessments including G5/5, P28 and P29; and insulation coordination studies.

They combine these skills to deliver comprehensive and leading-edge innovative solutions to their clients.
Responsibilities include;

  • Lead the Onshore Renewables team
  • Perform and manage power systems studies for a range of clients
  • Line management of team members, including conducting appraisals and preparing training plans
  • Work with your manager to:
  • facilitate effective management and growth of the team and workload
- manage resources and co-ordination of the team to ensure efficient delivery of projects and use of consultant time
- identify skills gaps, training needs, and recruitment needs to meet business plan targets, client needs, and overall company strategy

  • Work with the Connections Team Director to carry out focused BD and sales tasks for onshore renewables clients in addition to undertaking proposal activity, providing timely and efficient responses to enquiries and opportunities
  • Perform overall Project Manager role for the onshore renewables projects, as required, to coordinate the work appropriately and deliver projects efficiently
  • Ensure quality assurance of all team deliverables, including proposals and project reports
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and manage partnerships with other consultancies and industry bodies and support the team to develop these relationships with their clients
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and other legislative and company requirements
  • Work with all consultants in the team to ensure that lessons learnt are communicated and team skills are developed
  • Work with the Connections Team Manager and the Resource & Operations Director to ensure that the team continually improve systems in relation to quality, health & safety and the environment.
Essential requirements;

  • Demonstrable experience of providing power system consultancy services for renewable generation developers, OEMs, ICPs, EPCs, etc...
  • Extensive, detailed knowledge of power system analysis and direct involvement and delivery of detailed power systems studies in software packages, such as PowerFactory, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, PSCAD.
  • Extensive experience of performing dynamic grid connection studies to meet the requirements of Engineering Recommendation G99 and international Grid Codes.
  • Bespoke dynamic model development in PowerFactory or PSS/E or IPSA for inverterconnected generation as well as conventional AVR and governor modelling.
  • Extensive experience of performing power quality assessment studies, including Engineering Recommendation G5/5, P28, and P2
  • Excellent written and verbal communications with both technical and nontechnical personnel
Desirable requirements;

  • Postgraduate degree in electrical engineering
  • Capability in Python, DPL, or other languages suitable for automating power system analysis
  • Experience in performing insulation coordination studies
  • Working knowledge of power system protection settings and coordination
  • Detailed cable thermal rating calculations
  • Transformer design and rating calculations
  • Cost/benefit analysis
  • Earthing study design utilising CDEGs
  • Ability and willingness to travel independently within the UK and occasionally overseas for BD and client support
