    We are seeking an exceptional candidate for an exciting, newly created role within our People and Culture department as Employee Relations Manager.

    The People and Culture Team at The James Paget University Hospital fully embrace flexible ways of working, including Hybrid Working.     At the James Paget we understand the impact our approach to employee relations has on the way our people feel about working here and therefore service delivery. The Employee Relations Manager role will be key to leading a compassionate approach in the way we care for staff who experience difficulties at work as well alongside the development of People and Culture policies and practices to support a more people-centred, less process centred approach is key focus of the role.

    The successful candidate will lead a small team of HR specialists and the provision of highly specialist advice and support in the most of complex cases, including oversee appeals and the day-to-day management of Tribunal Claims. The role will also be responsible for overseeing the effective delivery of the HR Helpline, People and Culture Policy Framework and Job Evaluation Processes.

    Excellent communication and influencing skills and as well as the ability to form strong professional partnerships is essential.

    Main duties of the job

    To play a key role in developing a more compassionate organisational culture in regard to our approach to the management of employee relations issues, in alignment with our values and principles for a Just Culture. To ensure a more people and less process focused approach and regard to more restorative outcomes.

    To develop, implement, communicate and embed policies, toolkits and practices that support a fair, proportionate and compassionate approach to people management, implementing through the lens of the HR Helpline and an effective manager self-service offer.

    To develop the knowledge and skill of your team to be not only technically expert but capable in coaching managers and staff in how they approach and respond to difficult people issues.

    To analyse data, monitor trends and develop and implement an approach to ensure continuous learning and quality improvement in how we deal with employee relations issues, embedded this into our policy, toolkits and practices.

    To provide expert analysis of highly complex employment issues where no precedents exist, interpreting employment legislation and case law and providing guidance to the Head of HR Business Partnering, Trust Managers and Directors.

  • CIPD educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • MIPD Professional area of special interest.
  • Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience of working in a medium to large organisation. Used to working with senior management.
  • Experience of managing complex case work and running organisation wide projects.
  • Desirable

  • Previous NHS or Public Sector experience

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
