Carpentry - remove/re-fix skirting, floor boards, soffits and fascias

  • Plaster patching patching to areas of work, e.g. newly formed fire openings, etc.
  • Brickwork form and make good holes in brickwork, make good flooring/ground works, point up lead works, making good where required.
  • To effectively communicate with customers, line mangers and Council officers, to ensure all works, including emergencies, are prioritised correctly, appointments are maintained and documentation and certification is accurately completed and submitted withinrequired timescales.
  • The post holder must be able to complete all works activities, as defined within their appropriate skill band, with reasonable skill and care, to ensure high levels of customer care is maintained, contractual performance targets are met and operationalefficiency is maximised.
  • To be able to work effectively as part of a team or on their own, using their own initiative to visit properties prior to commencement, order materials and plant appropriate to the work required, prioritise works, identify, resolve and complete tasks anddocumentation. (Training will be provided where necessary, particularly following the introduction of new Council Policies and Procedures, which the post holder must adhere to).
  • To carry out any reasonable task, as instructed within the individual's skill and competency, to a preagreed standard, using reasonable skill and care.
  • Ensure full compliance with Council Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, provide advice on how to maintain their homes, e.g. control condensation, explain Council Repairs Policy, where required and arrange/negotiate further access where necessary.
  • To be responsible for the safety and security of Council assets including vehicles, materials, plant and equipment, hand held PC's, test equipment etc. Taking particular care to prevent children from interfering with equipment whilst on site.
  • The post holder must be in general good health, able to work outside in all weathers and also be able to work at heights. (Safety equipment and training will be provided). The post holder will also be required to participate in medical health surveillance(i.e. hearing tests) as required.
  • Due to the diverse nature of the post, working in filth (clear blocked sewage drains, etc) and cramped/awkward conditions will be commonplace. The post holder should also be physically able to handle large, heavy objects (whilst complying with Manual HandlingLegislation, Risk Assessments and Method Statements) as required.
  • The above information relating to job function is not meant to limit the scope of work, as the Directorate is continually striving towards total multiskilling of the entire workforce in an attempt to deliver a better service to its customers.
  • Undertake regular training as required
  • The Council actively promotes regeneration and provides training opportunities. The post holder may, occasionally, be required to supervise a short term (up to 2 weeks) work experience placement or mentor Council employed modern apprentice for up to 5 years.
  • When the service requires, undertaken roofing inspections to address any minor repairs.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the nature of this post
