    Job summary

    Applications are invited for a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. This is an excellent opportunity within the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. This post is an important part of our ongoing development of Obstetric services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. This is a new substantive post.

    This post is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage and comprises 10 core programmed activities (PAs) including clinical sessions in both Obstetrics & Gynaecology and a non-resident on call commitment for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder joins an established consultant team with a widerange of gynaecology and obstetrics specialist skills and experience, including specialist antenatal clinics for diabetes, perinatal mental health, multiple pregnancy, preterm delivery, bereavement, day assessment, post-natal care, foetal medicine and gynae-oncology, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, recurrent miscarriage, fertility services, endometriosis and urogynaecology. The Obstetric component will include a high-risk antenatal caseload and labour ward sessions. The post holder will be supported in developing a special interest that fits with the departmental needs.

    Providing clinical leadership for high-risk pregnancies Providing clinical leadership and expertise in Obstetrics &Gynaecology supporting nursing and midwifery teams. An active role in the provision of teaching and training formedical staff, nurses, midwives, and students. Take part in the training of junior medical staff and medicalstudents attached to the department Maintenance of high-quality patient centred care Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of theservice and participation in strategic planning Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings anddirectorate clinical governance activity Active participation in continuing medical education

    Person Specification

    Qualifications / Training

    Essential

  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Obstetric Emergency Training Certificate (, MOET, PROMPT, ALSO)
  • Desirable

  • MD or Postgraduate academic degree
  • Previous Experience

    Essential

  • Broad range of experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • RCOG Advance Labor Ward Practice ATSM or equivalent experience
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • RCOG Advanced antenatal practice ATSM or equivalent experience
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
  • Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
  • Desirable

  • Gynaecology RCOG ATSMs and special interest that support the Dept needs

  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
