    We are looking for a committed and dynamic ward manager, to provide leadership and clinical direction on the Horizon Ward in Wakefield. The successful candidate will have a passion for person centred care and working with people with a learning disability. This is an exciting opportunity for Ward Manager to join the Horizon inpatient unit on a full-time post 1.0wte / 37.5 hrs per week. We are a well-established ward that provides specialist inpatient support to people with a Learning Disability. This will be an ideal role for someone who is looking to take the next step in their career, enhance their management skills and take the ward to forward to achieve an outstanding inpatient service. The team consists of a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, LD nurses, occupational therapists, speech & language therapists, and healthcare support staff. The Team works together deliver therapeutic assessment and treatment and to support adults with LD and their families/carers. The Trust is committed to staff development and in-house training to enable the applicant to fulfil the requirements of the role. Main duties of the job You will be a highly motivated and conscientious individual, who has the desire to work creatively with people with learning disabilities within an inpatient setting. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their role, has a passion for improving systems and ways of working in a collaborative approach. The role will include: Leading the operational management and clinical oversight of the Service.
    • Provide day to day management, leadership and line management to the team.
    • Work alongside the senior clinical team to oversee and ensure specialist assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for service users with complex Learning Disabilities with possible mental health conditions.
    • Demonstrate enhanced competence in complex decision making, assessment and the management of clinical needs.
    • Collect and collate data / information effectively for the purpose of audit, research and service performance.
    • Work in partnership with service users, carers and other agencies to ensure effectiveness of outcomes.

Job description Job responsibilities JOB SUMMARY The Post holder will be responsible for the effective day to day delivery of Learning Disabilities Assessment & Treatment ward within the designated team area. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of resources and staff employed by both SWYPFT and integrated partners with agreed permissions framework to act in conjunction with other ward managers, professionals, disciplines and partners. The post holder will be expected to have strong clinical and leadership skills and be responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality forensic mental health services. KEY RESULT AREAS: Management and Resources The Ward Manager will manage allocated resources on behalf of the trust and local authority to ensure that fundamentals of care are delivered. Competencies Provide day to day management of all staff within the ward team including sickness and absence monitoring, conduct and performance etc. Ensure that team resources are deployed appropriately to meet the day to day demands on the ward and wider service. Ensure service provision meets the individual needs of service users and their carers within Learning and Disability policy, the personalisation, prevention and recovery agenda. Ensure that the service observes the legal and philosophical requirements of national legislative frameworks. Monitor the quality and appropriateness of service provision. Monitor ward budgets and take measures to ensure that they remain within agreed establishments, alerting the budget holder of current or expected budget pressures.     • RNLD / RMN / RN Mental Health, or DipSW / CQSW / CSS or OT.
    • Relevant graduate qualification or equivalent.
    • Mentorship qualification or equivalent
    • Practice Placement Educator

    • Management Qualification related to health and social care
    • Relevant post-graduate qualification
    Experience Essential
    • Proven ability of post-basic clinical practice.
    • Demonstrable leadership experience.
    • Highly skilled at assessing and managing people with learning disability needs.
    • Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in supporting/mentoring/supervising staff and students/trainees.
    • Knowledge and evidence of using IT systems
    • Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in assessing and managing risk in a variety of settings
    • Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in assessing the needs and strengths of people and their carers
    • Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in delivering a range of therapeutic techniques
    • Proven ability to support team members with day-to-day caseload management including prioritisation of responsibilities in times of high clinical demand.
    • Proven ability to promote and develop links with other professionals e.g. practitioners
    • within long term conditions, primary care
    • Evidence of knowledge and application in practice of national guidance and standards e.g. NICE, CQC, CQUINS
    • Using and implementing clinical governance systems.
    • Experience of chairing meetings.
    • Experience of providing and receiving supervision and appraisal.

    • Able to implement and manage changes to internal systems to a reasonable conclusion.

    • Able to write evidence based reports that support higher level decision making.
    Desirable
    • Knowledge and skills in specialist areas, within learning disabilities, such as dual diagnosis, peri-natal mental health, working with people experiencing psychosis, working with people with a diagnosis or personality disorder, working with people with co-existing mental and physical health needs that impacts on well-being.
