Grade W13, £57,117 per annum, rising to £60,579 per annum over two annual increments
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic-minded Head of Talent and Employee Retention to join our dynamic team. This is a new position. Our people are critical to us keeping Wiltshire safe, hence this major investment in our People function.


Reporting to the Director of People, you will lead a team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the Force retains and develops its top talent ensuring Wiltshire Police maintains a high performing, competent and inclusive workforce that meets both our immediate and long-term strategic needs.


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement talent retention and engagement strategies to
enhance career development, engagement and satisfaction.

  • Design and implement the Force's approach to succession planning and
  • Develop and implement the approach to internal promotions.
  • Lead the review of the Force's performance development review.
  • Develop employee engagement strategies and participation through staff
surveys and create and develop employee network and affinity groups.

  • Work to develop a performance based inclusive culture and ensure the Values
support and drive the culture.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive EDI strategy and implementation
plans aligned with Wiltshire Police's goals and values.

  • Utilise HR analytics and metrics to assess the effectiveness of talent and EDI initiatives.
  • Support the design and delivery of relevant training programs.
  • Design and develop of a wellness strategy and initiatives.

Experience Requirements:

  • Have a strategic mindset and extensive experience in talent management, including retention, promotions, development, and performance management.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and implement successful talent management strategies.
  • Experience of culture change programmes together with embedding values.
  • Excellent leadership and managerial skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Deep understanding of EDI principles, diversity frameworks, and relevant legislation and emerging trends.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships with diverse groups.
  • Experience of wellness program management, health promotion, employee engagement.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience of managing a team to deliver.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment.
  • FCIPD qualified or equivalent experience
