    Description

    Job Title: Estimator

    Reporting to: Business Development Manager

    Summary of Responsibilities: Ensuring tender bids are processed, completed & returned in a complete & accurate manner, within the timeframe requested by the client.

    Ideal candidate

    The ideal candidate will have previous experience in estimating, ideally from an architectural or structural steel background (minimum 5 years), along with the following;

    • Experience in preparing tenders and take-offs from construction drawings.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships.
    • Excellent IT and computer skills, predominantly Microsoft Office suite.
    • Professional telephone skills
    • A smart appearance.
    • Ability to work well under pressure.
    • Ability to work well as part of a small team and also under your initiative when required.
    • Well organised with excellent time management.
    • Ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously.
    • A valid UK Driving license.

    Responsibility & Duties

    • Review drawings & Tender information
    • Establish if the project is appropriate for the business.
    • Record and log tender information.
    • Collate information from enquiries received and prepare tender bids.
    • Check through tender documents to ensure proposed contract terms are acceptable to the business
    • Preparing accurate take-offs of all applicable work from drawings. (Manually or using take off software).
    • Liaise with internal departments to understand and interpret tender requirements.
    • Obtaining material prices from suppliers based on contract specifications.
    • Produce cost sheets for all items of work.
    • Produce cost breakdowns/ summary.
    • Produce a job cost budget for the project.
    • Produce a written quotation.
    • Attending client meetings.
    • Developing relationships with key clients.
    • Attend post tender meetings with clients.
    • Negotiate final tender sum with clients.
    • Check through PSI (Project specific instruction) & Contract documents to ensure contract information & terms reflect the tender documents & remain acceptable to the business.
    • Allocate contract number and update sales ledgers.
    • Review position statement.
    • Preparing handover documents for the projects team.
    • Keeping all records and database up to date
    • Arrange and chair project handover meeting.
    • Attend client pre start meeting.
