  • Main duties of the job

    Ensure that nursing care within the ward is of a high standard and in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures.

    Maintain individual patient care systems, evaluating and updating them as necessary to ensure that the patients' physical, social and psychological needs are metAssist with the introduction and implementation of new ideas and methods of nursing care, including research methods.

    Communicate with relatives as required and ensure a good public image at all times.

    Ensure that ordering, storage administration and documentation of drugs are in accordance with Trust policy

    Ensure that research based nursing care within the ward is of a high standard and in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures. By monitoring patient care, supervising juniors, and evaluating the care that is delivered.

    Maintain individual patient care plans, evaluating and updating them as necessary to ensure that the patient's physical, social and psychological needs are met.

    Ensure that all patients nutritional and personal hygiene needs are met.

    Have knowledge of and diagnose cardiac/respiratory arrest and initiate basic life support, if necessary. Escalate to appropriate senior nursing staff or medical personnel concerns regarding individual patients should their condition deteriorate.

    Job responsibilities

    Upholding the Trust CARES values and under the supervision of senior colleagues be responsible for the assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care for a group of paediatric patients.

    Once assessed as competent administer oral and intravenous medication in accordance with Trust policy.

    Promote continuing education and professional development by attending training as necessary and act as a Practice Supervisor or Assessor to student nurses in training.

    Work collaboratively as part of the paediatric nursing workforce to support other areas of paediatric practice as necessary such as paediatric day care, neonatal unit, or paediatric ED.
