    Contract Type: Permanent

    Hours: Full Time 37 hours per week

    Location of post: The Quays, Brunel Way, Briton Ferry, Neath SA11 2GG

    We have an exciting opportunity for a Noise & Statutory Nuisance Enforcement Officer in the Public Health & Pollution Control Team, within the General Environmental Health Service.

    This post will contribute to the delivery of Pollution Control service and respond to complaints about various noise and statutory nuisance matters mainly under the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. On occasions the postholder will be required to working in collaboration with partner enforcement agencies such as Planning Enforcement, Anti-Social Behaviour, Waste Enforcement, South Wales Police, Fire and Rescue and Arson Reduction.

    Although the successful candidate would be required to take a lead role in Noise and Statutory Nuisance, the post may require the candidate to cover other areas of Environmental Health, therefore a detailed knowledge of law and legal procedures relevant to Environmental Health, or a similar field of work, is essential.

    The post holder will need to work flexibly from a range of venues and will also be required to visit a range of premises primarily within the Neath Port Talbot area.

    The main duties of the post;

  • Investigation of alleged noise and statutory nuisance complaints
  • Providing advice, guidance and mediation where appropriate
  • Maintaining records, registers and data and assisting with compiling statistical returns
  • Preparing reports and witness statements
  • Undertaking investigations and securing evidence
  • Issuing legal proceedings and serving legal Notices
  • Undertaking prosecutions
  • You will have experience in/of;

  • Experience of mediation and negotiation.
  • Experience of working in an enforcement service would be advantageous.
  • A detailed knowledge of law and legal procedures relevant to Environmental Health, or a similar field of work
  • Ideally you will have;

    A minimum of 4 GCSE passes or equivalent, including English or Welsh and Maths, AND hold a relevant qualification at HNC, Diploma or a higher accredited BSc/MSc degree in Environmental Health or a related subject.
