    Data Protection Team Manager

    Salary: National ranging from £67,100 to £83,800 and London ranging from £73,700 to £92,100

    The team/ department

    We are looking for the Manager of the Data Protection function reporting into the Data Protection Officer (DPO) within Risk and Compliance Oversight. This is a rare opportunity to help redevelop how the FCA manages personal data which will have a real impact in protecting consumers and markets.

    W hat you will be doing (the role)

    You will be responsible for assisting the Data Protection Officer in protecting the rights of data subjects whose data the FCA processes and enabling the FCA to being a data led regulator by:

  • Designing, implementing, and embedding a structure for Data Protection within the FCA's 2nd line of defence
  • Managing the data protection function whilst also giving relevant coaching/mentoring which will aide in colleague career development
  • Support the DPO in redesigning and updating the FCA's approach to compliance with relevant legislation including, but not limited to development work on the record of processing activities (ROPA), designing risk based training programmes, reviewing, and updating the FCA's approach to data protection complaints management and other associated work
  • Delivering cultural and behavioural change across the FCA to build an organisation which understands the rights of data subjects and can balance them against the FCA's work in the public interest
  • Providing expert advice across all parts of the FCA (and Payment Systems Regulator (PSR)) on all elements of data protection and privacy including, but not limited to, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Part 3 of the Data Protection Act (aka the Law Enforcement directive)
  • Providing assurance that the FCA is acting in compliance with relevant law and regulation
  • Act as Deputy Data Protection Officer and act as delegate for the DPO when required
  • Lead on incident response for non-major data breaches and support the DPO in the response to major breaches. Incident response may require work outside of normal working hours

    The skills and experience you will have

    Minimum

  • Previous people management/leadership experience, with proven evidence of monitoring/reviewing performance, and coaching and mentoring to support development
  • Experience with data protection law and/or practice
  • Proven experience in project management
  • Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in the prioritisation of competing tasks and managing internally and externally high-profile issues
  • Evidenced capability to make decisions based on finely balanced judgements
  • A high degree of stakeholder management skills – being able to sell the value of data protection to the organisation
  • Experience in incident management and resilience in the face of high-profile incidents
