The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Manchester Clinical Research Facility (CRF)


We are looking for a motivated and dynamic individual to take on the role of the Clinical Research Facility Nursing & Midwifery Lead.


The Manchester CRF provides opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds across Greater Manchester to take part in research.


Hosted by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, the Manchester CRF is the largest and most comprehensive of the 28 NIHR Clinical Research Facilities, enhancing translation of scientific advances through experimental research.

Manchester CRF operates six world-class facilities based at NHS teaching hospitals across Greater Manchester delivering a diverse range of cutting edge, early phase experimental medicine studies for adults and children at:
The Christie

Manchester Royal Infirmary

North Manchester General Hospital

Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

Salford Royal Hospital

Wythenshawe Hospital


As the Clinical Research Facility Nursing & Midwifery Lead you will work closely with the Manchester CRF Operational Director and Medical Director to deliver the strategic aims of the Manchester CRF at MFT.

You will also be responsible for line managing the Manchester CRF Matron and Manchester CRF Advanced Clinical Practitioners.


The scope of the role extends to supporting the NIHR Manchester CRF's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, responsibility for clinical and research governance and for ensuring safe delivery of Clinical Trials.

Service Development and Leadership

Provide visible, effective clinical, research and professional leadership which demonstrates the values and behaviours identified within the Trust's framework.
Demonstrate effective leadership by promoting and role modelling expected leadership behaviours.

Actively contribute to developing strategy within MCRF and MFT R&I, ensuring the needs of patients and families are integral to strategic aims.

Provide line management and develop the clinical research teams and individuals within the MCRF to provide effective, accountable care.

Work in partnership with the Principal Investigators, actively supporting and empowering senior nurses & midwives to develop and utilise clinical leadership skills.

Lead the MCRF sites to achieve continuous improvement within the framework of the Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation programme.
Enable a culture where all individuals are able to contribute equally.
Ensure the quality of service delivered aligns with the MCRF strategies to improving performance and the patient experience.

Support the MCRF Operational Director and MCRF Director by contributing to the development of workforce plans, providing innovative approaches to workforce delivery to meet service requirements and seek to be an employer of choice for nurses and midwives.

Proactively promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in line with legislation, policy and the MCRF EDI and Patient, Public, Inclusion, Engagement and Participation strategies.

Be responsive and work collaboratively to problem solve and lead in difficult and problematic situations.

Clinical Governance/Effectiveness


Support and contribute to the research and clinical governance agenda for R&I, working closely with the Head of Nursing & Midwifery, Assistant Chief Nurse and R&I senior management team to deliver safe and effective care.
