Please refer to the attachments for the full Job Description and Person Specification.

The main role is to look after the general Medical needs of the Level 1 & 2 patients who are in the process of rehabilitation from their acquired brain injury by providing on site cover from 9am to 5pm.

Occasional irregular duties/hours, outside the standard work hours, may be necessary for the effective smooth running of the Unit. Their medical needs are variable from basic management to occasional acute emergencies requiring transfer to the main hospital site.

Some patients have challenging behaviours as a consequence of their acquired brain injury.

All new patients require clerking with the acquisition of relevant collateral information from referring ward/hospital and, where necessary, from the relatives/family.

The post holder will work with Dr Graham, Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and Consultants in Neuropsychiatry and Neuropsychology. The consultants are accessible and approachable for any issue concerning the neuro-behavioural and neuro-physical management of the in-patients.

The Fellow is, however, encouraged to take the lead in the general medical management of the patients.

The post holder will work within the structure of an interdisciplinary team, supporting the nursing and therapy staff as well as the patient(s) and their relatives and family.

The Fellow plays a pivotal role in liaising with the staff, therapists and clinical professionals. Report preparation, comprehensive discharge summaries and documentation of issues concerning the patients are essential components of the post.
