    We are looking for an enthusiastic Catering Operative to work predominantly in the Production Kitchen, but who must also be willing to work as part of the wider team to provide services to our patients.

    The main function of this post is to undertake general duties, including the preparation, transportation and distribution of food for patients, staff and visitors in a clean food safe environment.

    Main duties of the job

  • Ensure that the food is of the correct quality, quantity, temperature and date.
  • The preparation, packaging and labelling of food items for the relevant food service areas.
  • Perform an effective and courteous food service for patients, staff and visitors, following temperature and portion control protocols.
  • To replenish food storage areas and food display counters to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Ensure condiments are available to complement dishes on the menu
  • Required to communicate with colleagues, patients and visitors on food and drink requirements for dietary, allergy, ethical and cultural requirements.
  • Check and monitor food temperatures according to departmental procedures. This may include deliveries, fridges, freezers, hot and chilled display units.
  • Transport food in a safe and efficient manner to the relevant food service locations prior to service.
  • The cleaning of kitchen equipment following departmental cleaning schedules.
  • The cleaning of associated catering areas with the aid of commercial equipment (eg floor scrubbers, steam cleaners and wet suction machines).
  • The washing of pans, utensils and light equipment using commercial pan washers or dish washers.
  • To wash and sanitise all crockery and cutlery in food service areas, and replenish service areas when necessary.
  • To work on the cash register, handling monies and be accountable for following SOP's for cash handling.
  • The post- holder may be required to undertake additional duties as appropriate.

At Band 2, the enhancements are: all time on Saturday (midnight to midnight) and any week day after 8 pm and before 6 am – time plus 41% ( £18.09 per hour ) or all time on Sundays and Public Holidays (midnight to midnight) – time plus 83% ( £23.47 per hour ).

    Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working in NHS
  • Previous experience of working in cleaning industry
  • Education and Qualification

  • Good basic education which includes reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
  • Desirable criteria

  • BICSc Qualification/NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning/Catering or equivalent
