    Job summary

    An opportunity has arisen to appoint a full time(10 PA), Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to join our innovative departmentat an exciting time in our Trusts future althoughless than full time applications may be considered

    The clinical team consists of 4 Consultant OncoplasticBreast Surgeons, 3 Associate Specialists and 8 Specialist Nurses, which workclosely alongside the radiology teams.

    The Breast service offers a one stop diagnosticbreast clinic every week-day based at the Pinderfields site. Theatre capacityfor breast surgical intervention is offered at Pinderfields General Hospitaland with adoption of new localisation technologies is offered for other Trustsites: Pontefract and Dewsbury.

    We are a busy service with close to 500 cancerstreated annually and above 7000 symptomatic referrals seen.

    The Breast Team cooperates closely with an experiencedPlastic Surgery Team. The 3 Consultant Plastic Surgeons offer DIEP flapsreconstruction

    Main duties of the job

    The mainduties of the posts will include:

    To provide a clinical service of the highestquality to patients with benign or malignant breast diseases.

    To provide a high quality breast reconstruction service.

    To work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that wework together as a supportive team.

    To support the teaching and researchactivities of the team.

    To provide leadership and act as a role model to juniormembers of staff.

    This post does not include any Emergency on call commitments

    Post-operative cover is provided to all breast patients bythe team across all sites

    Travel between sites may be required, which will be reflectedwithin the job plan.

    Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space,secretarial support, and networked computer facilities, are provided.

    Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the TrustFramework, with at least a minimum of SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may becommissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changingrequirements of the service.

    Examples may include formal teachingresponsibilities or departmental leadership roles

    Job responsibilities

    MidYorkshire Teaching NHS Trust wishes to appoint a full time (10 PA) ConsultantOncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon. This is a new post to join the existingteam of four Consultant Breast Surgeons.

    The Breast care team consists of 4Consultant Surgeons , 4 Consultant Radiologists, 3 associate specialists, 1Specialty Doctor, 2 Specialist Registrars, 8 Specialist Nurses, 3 BreastPathologists, 2 Clinical Oncologists and3 Medical Oncologists.

    The BreastService provides over 7000 outpatientappointments and over 500 operations per annum and has a local population of

    The BreastUnit hosts a weekly MDT meeting within an advanced technological facilitiesprovided by the Dr Jacksons fund, which is attended by the surgeons, medicaloncologists, clinical oncologist, pathologist, radiologists, radiographers, andbreast care nurses, advanced radiology practitioners, Palliative care nurses,research nurses and MDT co-ordinator.

    Duties willbe based primarily on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although may requiresome cross site travel.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • MB BS / MB ChB or equivalent
  • MRCS
  • FRCS Intercollegiate Specialty Examination (Plastic Surgery / General) Part 1 by closing date of applications
  • FRCS Intercollegiate Specialty Examination (Plastic Surgery / General) Part within 6 months from the appointment
  • Desirable

  • Postgraduate academic degree
  • College Fellowship
  • Completion of an Oncoplastic Fellowship
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Sufficient experience at Senior level in to be placed on the Specialist Register.
  • Computer literate.
  • Fully accredited by college and acceptable to college representative.
  • Clinical Training and experience in oncoplastic breast surgery equivalent to that required of a UK CCST. Statement regarding appropriate training and experience including that relating to a specialist interest. Excellent clinical skills and substantial experience of benign and malignant breast conditions
  • Experience in oncoplastic techniques such as therapeutic mammoplasty and reconstruction
  • Excellent practical skills in the full range of breast clinical problems
  • Good understanding of the management of breast disease
  • Desirable

  • Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD
  • Completion of oncoplastic fellowship
  • GMC Registration

  • Hold a current licence to practice from the GMC
