Track Charge Person and you'll be part of it.


As a Track Charge Person you will be actively supporting the safe delivery of allocated work sites and projects to the required specification and quality standard; whilst achieving contract programme miles tones, maintaining sufficient s kill and competence levels to meet the requirements of the operational delivery teams, demon strating the agreed behaviours from Balfour Beatty and the
Core Valley lines project.


What you'll be doing
As Track Charge Person, you will have the following accountabilities:

  • Demonstrate a good working relations hip with work colleagues, interfacing organisations, clients & the general public
  • Ensure work activities are delivered within timescales, and free of defects.
  • Good levels of workmanship/quality are maintained during planned, unplanned & emergency situations.
  • Works within own & authorised limitations escalates to a higher level when these have been reached.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to advise, mentor and develop fellow work colleagues
  • Demonstrates a good working knowledge of permanent way activities with
appropriate underpinning componentry knowledge

  • Able to undertake common P /Way activities under own initiative.


  • Installing

  • Sleepers, Ballas t, Rails & Associated fastenings


  • Adjusting

  • Sleeper s pacing & squaring, Ballast profiling, Top and line


  • Replacing

  • Sleepers, R ails, Ballast, Fastenings


  • D is mantling

  • Plain Line and S&C components.
  • Site activities to be undertaken will include the following but not limited to;
  • Sleeper Laying
  • Sleeper Lining
  • Roll in Rail using Iron Men or Rollers or both
  • Cutting Rail (Petrol & Electric)
  • Clipping up
  • Install Rail Clamps and Fish plates
  • Records & maintains accurate records of work activities, training & assessment
events attended within their personal Continuous Professional Logbook (C P D)

  • Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Participates in and acknowledges feedback reviews including from Supervisors,
from personal development review and peers.

  • Completes and submits to line manager and S H E Q department a P G I once a month.
  • Raises observations (close calls and good practices ) on the B B Observations app.

Who we're looking for

You will have the following:
Essential Requirements.

  • Manual Handling
  • Other skills held and or working towards will be dependent upon client/contract requirements but may include the following:
Network R ail (NWR ) - Personal Track Safety AC /D C., COSS.

  • Preferred skills

Working towards completion of Supervise or Development Programme - building on strengths to further enhance the Site Management undertaking training needs and gap analysis providing training in three phases.

  • Iron Man / Track Trolley
(this list is not exhaustive and can expand to include competencies for plant innovations )

  • Traffic Marshall
  • Communication skills ability to escalate problems and or solutions on site, via the B B Observations app and to line management.
  • S H E Q awareness understanding all briefings and toolbox talks and asking questions should clarification be required. Following guidelines for plant, tools and materials as per training.
