    Mid Level Substation Physical Design Engineer

    Job Summary

    POWER Engineers, Inc. is currently seeking a mid level Electrical Engineer with experience in substation physical design to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Birmingham, Alabama office. This is an in-office position but flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations.

    Perform detailed design of one-line diagrams, general arrangements, elevations, AC service calculations, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, ground grid layouts and details.

    The successful candidate shall be able to specify and select substation equipment; contribute to substation equipment specifications, proposal development, and project scheduling.

    Occasional travel will be required.

    Required Education/Experience

    Ability to function as a Mid Level Substation Physical Design Engineer in the Birmingham, Alabama location of our Substation Business Unit.

    BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) degree, from an accredited university, preferably with a power option.

    Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.

    Experience in managing small project teams.

    Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.

    Engineer in Training (EIT) registration or ability to obtain within 6 months.

    Five (5) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined above.

    The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

    Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

    Desired Education/Experience

    Experience in 230kV through 500kV substation design.

    Professional Engineering license (PE).
