This post is a 9 fixed clinical session, 40 hours, within Oculoplastics, Uveitis, Medical Retinal Service and Accident and Emergency department in Ophthalmology at Imperial College.

The applicant could be employed to work at The Western Eye Hospital, Marylebone Road, London NW1 5YE or Charing Cross Hospital, Fulham Palace Road, London W6.


  • Provide High Quality Care to Patients in Ophthalmology
  • The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.
  • To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
  • To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
  • To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
  • Research, Teaching and Training
  • To provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director/Chief of Service.
  • Attend and participate in the West London weekly postgraduate ophthalmic teaching by organizing and chairing an allocated session 23 times a year.
  • To attend weekly medical retina big room meeting every Thursday 12:3013:15pm
  • Performance Management
  • To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
  • to ensure NICE guideline for Anti-VGF injection is strictly adhered to
- to participate in auditing clinical service
- to vet fast track referrals to ensure that patients with wet
  • AMD are seen promptly
  • Medical Staff Management
  • To participate in team objective setting as part of the annual job planning cycle.

  • Outpatient care of Uveitis and Medical Retina patients including AMD, Diabetic Retinopathy and other medical retina disorders
  • To be involved in Anti-VEGF treatment of Wet AMD and other conditions
  • To be involved in Photodynamic therapy and retinal laser therapy
  • To undertake A&E sessions at the Western Eye Hospital
  • To maintain good communication with GP, optometrists, hospital clinicians and other allied professionals
  • To provide teaching to medical students, other junior doctors, optometrists
  • To assist in academic and pharmaceutical research activities within the department
  • To vet fasttrack and routine medical retina referrals
  • To assist in the management and development of the clinical service
