    Description

    Main duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure all project related tasks as set by the PR&D Manager's, Project Chemists or Senior Development Chemists are carried out effectively and in a timely fashion.
  • Plan project work efficiently, and communicate timelines to enable Project Chemists and Senior PR&D staff members correctly and accurately, base-line project plans.
  • To utilise personal expertise and experience gained in analytical chemistry, inclusive of wet and physical chemistry, chromatographic and spectrographic techniques, in order to effectively develop accurate, scientifically sound and robust analytical methodologies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work carried out.
  • Manage workload and project documentation to a level suitable for external examination.
  • Present weekly and daily reports, both written and verbal, to both customers and work colleagues.
  • To complete, when requested, time and project update reports and records, in such a manner as is agreed in Standard Operating Procedures active in the department at the time.
  • To keep up to date with current practices and relevant scientific technique advancements pertinent to the practice of analytical chemistry.
  • To meet with customers and their representatives as may be required from time to time. This may involve travel to the location of the customer, or be at the Carbogen Amcis Manchester site.
  • To work in a clean, safe and tidy manner adhering to company policy on 5S.
  • To influence safe working practices and comply as required.
  • When requested, to personally perform, and/or help Q.C staff perform, qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis of various materials associated with the company's operations.
  • When requested, assist the Q.C Manager with all Quality Control operations of CGAM Ltd.
  • To provide training to both AD and QC team members on new techniques and methodologies, and actively participate in continual improvement initiatives.
  • Specific Responsibilities

  • Read proposals and understand the overall scope of project delivery, and to advise on analytical development scope for proposals, alongside promptly informing PR&D management of out of scopes where required.
  • Assist PR&D Projects through all stages of development to ensure accurate Raw Material, IPC and final release controls are in place, ensuring QC release and QA approval can be undertaken.
  • Plan work to ensure all overall project timelines are met.
  • Communicate delays in analytical development activities to the appropriate project leader and customer when required.
  • Compile and update as necessary, analytical methods, sample plans and specifications.
  • Perform all duties in a competent and professional manner.
  • To fully support the secure and traceable storage of all analytical data.
  • Ensure familiarity with all available instrumentation software systems, such as ACD Labs, Top spin, Chromeleon CDS, Masshunter, OpenLab CDS and Openlab Chemstation.
  • Review MBR's to ensure the appropriate quality control procedures have been captured.
  • To co-operate effectively with internal and external audits of the CGAM Ltd Quality Management System.
  • To coordinate effectively with other CGAM staff and external Clients / Auditors etc.
  • To ensure that the results of all analyses performed, both for Q.C purposes and in support of PR&D work, are transmitted to the relevant person requiring the data, ensuring that the data is understood.
  • To communicate effectively to colleagues at all levels within the company structure.
  • To utilise all resources available to them to improve their knowledge of current analysis techniques used in the department and any new technology that could be of interest.
  • The jobholder should be aware of all safety requirements for the working area and abide by all safety rules and regulations.
  • The jobholder should organize working times to suit the needs of the project as required.
  • The jobholder should allocate time for reading and in-house training in order to keep up with current practice in the chemical industry.
  • The jobholder must be aware of all current Standard Operating Procedures in force within his work area, and of other work areas in which he may work from time to time.
  • The jobholder is responsible for his own safety and the safety of others around.
  • Prevent any colleague from working in an unsafe manner, stop any unsafe operations and report the action taken to management.
  • Ensure the purchasing requirements for any analytical projects or work are met, ensuring all purchasing activities are undertaken within the Quality system by maintaining a good knowledge of the ordering systems.
  • Work with QC&A personnel to ensure effective communication of methods, specifications, results and related information.
  • To ensure good working practice, 5S, is followed in the Q.C Laboratory in order to maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
  • To ensure all SOP's relevant to the Q.C Laboratory are read and understood.
  • Provide solutions where required, by actively taking the lead role in duties such as method improvement, staff training and/or mentoring, in order to aid accurate and time-effective analysis within the QC department.
  • To compile and sign / countersign certificates of analysis prior to product despatch, analytical methods, SOP's and Work Directives, Raw Data records and QC review peer checking, alongside other documentation required within the remit of the Quality system.
  • To help the QC Team Leader and/or Manager, maintain all analytical equipment of the company to a high standard, ensuring all analytical equipment is subject to regular calibration, suitable records are maintained, and use in-depth knowledge and experience of instrumentation, to effectively troubleshoot issues when they arise.
  • To aid the running of the QC&A laboratory to ensure that all in-process, raw material and finished products analysis (when requested) is carried out to a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
