Job Description:


The DPA Right of Access team is responsible for processing Right of Access Requests made under the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), and requests from insurance companies under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the National Police Chief's Council (NPCC).

As a DPA Caseworker, your key responsibilities will include:


  • Using specialist knowledge to make informed decisions in relation to the disclosure of personal data held by the MPS requested by applicants under the Right of Access provisions of the DPA and GDPR, and the NPCC/ABI Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
  • Ensuring that the processing of right of access requests and MOU requests are completed in accordance with the legislation's statutory timeframe.
  • Searching and examining police systems and databases in order to locate information relevant to requests.
  • Engaging with officers/staff of various ranks in order to gather information relevant and in scope of the request.
  • Reviews and makes decisions regarding disclosure on investigations ranging the entire spectrum of policing.
  • Provides advice and updates to applicants via telephone or in writing in accordance with the legislation ensuring that third party data is not inadvertently disclosed.
  • Conducts reviews of CCTV & custody footage using legislative knowledge to make decisions on disclosure and redactions.
  • Utilises knowledge of Freedom of Information (FOI) to identify any questions within a right of access request that may fall under FOI that need to be dealt with as such and liaises with the correct team in order for the request to be logged.
  • Manages a large workload with varying statutory deadlines requiring flexibility, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Utilises IT systems such as word, excel and outlook to communicate, organise, track request deadlines, producing reports and statistics where necessary.

Requirements:


  • No previous experience is necessary, and full training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of FOI and GDPR is advantageous but not essential.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines is essential.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage a large workload is essential.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and database management, are required.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is required.
  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills is required.

Working Hours and Location:
The role is a full-time position, working onsite until fully trained, then remote working 2 days per week. The training period is expected to last approximately 6 weeks. The role can be is based from Sidcup Marlowe House.
