Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic pharmacist with a substantial track record with research and innovation (R&I) and publication of own research to devise and deliver a research strategy for pharmacy on all sites.

This post has been created to build research capacity across the pharmacy department at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH) and engage pharmacy staff in R&I.


KCH is one of London's largest and busiest teaching hospitals, with a unique profile of strong local services and a focused set of specialist services.

This includes providing specialist services to patients across a wide catchment area. We are recognised nationally and internationally for our work in haemato-oncology, liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences and foetal medicine.


We are part of the King's Health Partners (KHP) Pharmaceutical Sciences Clinical Academic Group (CAG) and the post holder will build academic partnerships with KHP and wider pharmacy.


You will have a PhD or equivalent experience and be an expert practitioner in the development and delivery of research undertaken by pharmacists.

You will have demonstrable experience developing research proposals and attracting funding, presenting your own research in peer reviewed publications and supervising others.

You will be supported to continue clinical practice in your specialist area and to maintain a personal research portfolio alongside this role.

The key aspects of the Clinical Academic Research Lead are:

  • To devise and deliver a research strategy for pharmacy at Kings College Hospital (KCH and PRUH).
  • To build research capacity across pharmacy.
  • To engage pharmacy staff in research and innovation (R&I) at KCH.
  • To establish and deliver key research themes over pharmacy at KCH, in line with R&I themes and NIHR priorities.
  • To act as an expert in research.
  • To identify, deliver and prioritise R&I at KCH.
  • To work collaboratively with R&I at KCH.
  • To build academic partnerships over KHP and wider pharmacy.
  • Act as a role model and promote Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • To present the senior pharmacy team with research priorities for KCH, and ensure support in delivery.
  • To build an academic profile and reputation for KCH Pharmacy.
  • To lead academic studies as a principal and chief investigator (PI and CI).
  • To lead and deliver on pharmacy innovation over KCH.
  • Ensure academic output in terms of research funding and peer reviewed publications.
