Job description


P+S Personnel are pleased to be working on behalf of our clients, who are currently seeking an Environment & H&S Advisor to join their team based in Norwich on a full-time, permanent basis.


Main Responsibilities:


  • Implement and maintain an environmental management system which meets the needs of the business and requirements of ISO 14001 and support with the ongoing management of the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Drive environmental improvement initiatives including energy use and management, energy procurement, waste reduction and sustainable waste management.
  • Assist with the monthly reporting of EHS metrics.
  • Provide supporting narrative to explain trends and variances.
  • Implement and manage future development of Sustainability Roadmaps.
  • Design, implement and manage an Environmental Management System (EMS) which meets the requirements of ISO 14001 and support the ongoing management of the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS).
  • Support in the implementation of HSE strategy as directed by the H&S Manager.
  • Facilitate and conduct internal and external audits for the EMS, HSMS & Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental and H&S legislation.
  • Identify and drive business improvements with regards to environment, health and safety and carbon footprint management & reduction to achieve Net Zero goals.
  • Support customers, partners & subsidiaries with environmental management and advice.
  • Support the adoption of industry best practice in all policies, safe working procedures and practices, ensuring they comply with relevant legislation.
  • Maintain and analyze site EHS data and provide timely data to key stakeholders identifying any themes and trends to determine improvement recommendations.
  • Plan, implement, monitor and review the protective and preventative measures that are identified by the hazard analysis and risk assessment process.
  • Conducting suitable and sufficient risk assessments, ensuring control measures are proportionate and effective.
  • Support in Producing and reviewing EHS documentation such as safe systems of work, risk assessments, policies and procedures.
  • Support in the ongoing use, improvement and management of the businesses QHSE software.
  • Advocate a culture of proactive and preventative EHS management.
  • Support the H&S Manager & L&D Specialist to ensure that all health & safety and environmental training for managers and employees is appropriate and training provided by external providers is adequate.
  • Support with the delivery and ongoing management of Induction training for new employees.
  • Undertaking regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and followed and safe working practices are being displayed.
  • Recording findings from inspections and audits and monitor improvements through to close out.
  • Support investigation of H&S and environmental Incidents, Near Misses and opportunities for improvement, advising of changes and improvements in work practices that are identified.
  • Support with site emergency preparedness activities through the facilitation of emergency exercises/drills and training.
  • Take part in and support the interactions with external authorities such as the Environment Agency and Health and Safety Executive.
  • Provide lunch break, emergency and unplanned cover for the Receptionist as required.
  • To adhere to and promote all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications, skills and experience:


  • IEMA or NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or equivalent in Environmental Management
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in H&S or equivalent (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of environmental and health & safety legislation and best practice implementation and experience of creating, implementing and managing management systems that meet the requirements of ISO 45001 and ISO 1400
  • Experience with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures. (Desirable)
  • Delivery of projects deploying Lean Manufacturing, CI or Six Sigma methodologies (Desirable)
  • Proficient with IT including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Able to influence and gain commitment and drive for results
  • Ability to collate, manage and report on technical information and data
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid UK Driving Licence with use of your own car for business use
  • Skilled in project management: tools; processes; timeline management (Desirable)
  • A professional and friendly nature, highly organised, with ability to plan and prioritise your own workload
  • Ability to confidently engage with all levels within the business
