Management Information Officer:

37 hours per week:

Salary £24,496 - £28,371 (Grade 8):

Dorchester, combined with home-working:

What's in it for you:

We are seeking to appoint an officer to our Schools Administration & Finance Support (SAFSO) Team to support maintained schools and academies with their Management Information Systems (MIS).

The SAFSO service is a traded service within Children's Services and champions the effective use of software in schools to ultimately raise pupil attainment and improve school effectiveness.

The team supports MIS and finance products, and this key role will focus on our MIS support and training. We currently support and provide training on ESS SIMS and Arbor MIS software.

You will be part of a dynamic team that is greatly valued by schools and academies in both Dorset and the surrounding area.

We are a close-knit team and will provide a comprehensive induction programme to ensure our new team member can meet the challenges of the role.

We offer hybrid and flexible working that supports a healthy work / life balance.

What you can expect to be doing:

As a MISO you will be required to develop, promote, and assist schools in their use of Arbor / SIMS software including business and technical support and user training.

You will also promote the use of Arbor / SIMS within the Local Authority and its schools and should be aware of the fundamentals of managing databases.

As part of a busy, friendly and client focused team, you will help support use of these products in Dorset and respond to the growing demand in schools for the effective use of MIS, enabling them to feel confident and competent in their information practice.

During a typical week, you'll be:

  • planning, updating, and delivering training to schools both in person and online on SIMS and Arbor
- resolving customer queries on SIMS and Arbor from schools
- updating your knowledge and skills and passing this onto the team and schools
- updating information for schools on future events, e.g., termly census
- assisting with ad-hoc technical duties to be tested and rolled out.

About you:

You will ideally have substantial experience of using or supporting ESS SIMS or Arbor in a school or Local Authority (or other suitably transferable skills, knowledge, or experience).

You'll be the key contact between Dorset Council and ESS for SIMS and Arbor for their products.

You should also be able to demonstrate clear understanding of how schools manage their ever-increasing need for management information to support school improvement and meet OFSTED and other statutory requirements, along with technical ability working with IT systems.

You will have:
- excellent customer service skills
- a high level of IT and communication skills
- a commitment to continually develop efficient and effective services that meet the needs of customers.

Knowledge and understanding of school curriculum management modules (such as timetabling, assessment and SEND) is an advantage.

Training experience is desirable as courses are regularly delivered to schools and academies.

Additional information:

Full details are in the accompanying Context Statement, Job Description/Person Specification.

The role involves travelling to schools and training centres and therefore use of a car is essential. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.

See our policy on safeguarding children and young people.
