Duration of Contract: Permanent
Salary: UH6 £29,619 - £32,348 per annum with potential to progress to £35,333 per annum depending on skills and experience
Location: University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield- We are looking to appoint a driven and enthusiastic Team Leader to take an integral role in the Student Funding and Financial Support (SFFS) Team within Student Finance.

This is a varied position with the opportunity to contribute to new working practices and supporting students across both campuses.


Main duties and responsibilities

  • You will support the Head of Student Finance in the daytoday management of the Student Funding and Financial Support team, to manage workflow within that team thereby ensuring cover for key tasks and availability for student queries. This role oversees the provision of information to and from the Student Loans Company (SLC), SAAS or other funding bodies such as: US Federal Loans, thereby ensuring minimum delay in the receipt of correct tuition fees by the University and maintenance funding for Students. Additionally, this role will involve managing the University Hardship fund, as well as play a critical role in the disbursement of financial support as part of the university's commitment to Access and Participation.
  • You will monitor, recommend, and implement improvements to overall systems and procedures within Student Finance, with particular emphasis on the management of processes required by the SLC for the correct and timely payment of tuition fees and maintenance payments, disbursement of financial support and provision of funding information to students and UH community.
    Skills and experience
  • You will have a history of being able to organise your workload and others' workload to work effectively, accurately, and calmly under pressure to meet deadlines. Communication skills are key to this role so you will be able to demonstrate effective communication skills with a range of stakeholders from colleagues to students and external agencies. You will demonstrate tolerance and sympathy whilst maintaining a focus on debt collection, mindful of the needs of students.
  • As the post requires a high level of data manipulation you will be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and IT skills, founded in a strong background of numeracy and literacy. You'll be at an advanced user level with Microsoft Office software, experienced in IT systems and understand the interaction between various systems. You'll be numerate and demonstrate you can write clearly and concisely. The ability to understand and interpret complex regulations is key.
  • You will be required to work flexibly, being effective in a team setting. You'll have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, processes, and institutional culture and to be proactive in promoting change.
    Qualifications required
  • You will hold a degree or equivalent of a Level 6 Qualification or have proven relevant professional work experience
