    Evaluation Support Scotland (ESS) is the expert voice on third sector evaluation in Scotland. We work with thirdsector organisations and funders so that they can measure and explain their impact and use learning to improvepractice and inform policy.

    This is an exciting time to join ESS and lead on the delivery of our five-yearstrategy .

    The Chief Executive provides leadership for the ESS team, promoting our work to funders and stakeholders, workingwith other sector leaders, and helping shape developments in the sector and wider political environment. Whilebeing an expert in evaluation is not an essential requirement, we are looking for a leader who is interested inorganisational learning and development and who cares about the third sector.

    Our ideal candidate will also be experienced in financial and strategic planning with the ability to identifyopportunities for ESS to develop, thrive and continue to innovate in the years ahead.     • Scotland, NI and North of England (Remote)

    Prospectus are excited to be working exclusively with IAM RoadSmart to help them recruit for a Regional Road SafetyManager to join their team covering the Scotland, NI and North of England. As the UK's largest independent roadsafety charity, formed in 1956, IAM RoadSmart spent more than 60 years making UK roads safer by improving driverand rider skills through coaching and education. The charity has over 77,000 members, all of whom have taken andpassed an advanced test in a car, commercial vehicle or on a motorcycle.

    Please note this is a full-time role being offered on a permanent basis. (The role involves overnight stays as wellas evening and weekend work)

    The Regional Road Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing IAM RoadSmart's operational service in Scotland,NI, and the North of England. This includes managing the field service north team. They ensure that all IAMRoadSmart standards and qualifications are followed and regularly checked for quality.

    Additionally, they handle the recruitment and ongoing training of IAM RoadSmart volunteers to support theorganisation's business model. They also work on growing IAM's diverse membership as part of the 3-yearstrategy. Their responsibilities also include overseeing operational delivery, volunteer engagement, groupdevelopment and nurturing relationships with PCCs, Safer Road Partnerships and other organisations and partnersin their designated regions.

    The ideal candidate should possess a Police Class 1 Driving and Riding qualification or an equivalent IAM Masterscertification, accompanied by IMI National Observer qualifications and IMI Examiner qualifications, whereapplicable. They must demonstrate a deep understanding of driving and riding techniques. The right candidate forthe role will have great interpersonal skills, experience of delivering strategy and managing change. They willhave experience of managing volunteers and groups and will be able to work independently as well as a part of ateam. This role will oversee a team of 3 full time employees.

    We are seeking to appoint someone on a 12-month fixed term contract as maternity cover, to join our Grants Team indelivering The Ideas Fund, an exciting programme which looks to connect communities with researchers in order todevelop and try out ideas related to mental wellbeing. The Fund is delivered in four areas of the UK – Oldham,Hull, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and North West Northern Ireland, although this role can be remote,based anywhere in the UK.

    With support from the Head of Grants, we expect that you will have lead responsibility for our work in two of theseareas, building strong relationships with our Development Co-ordinators and contributing to the successfuldelivery of the overall programme. You will oversee the support for grant holders to learn from what is workingand feed this learning into our overall approach with the Fund, as well as sharing insights externally.     You will work with our existing Grants & Learning Manager to ensure that our due diligence and grant reportingrequirements are met, responding flexibly and creatively to issues that arise. Importantly, you willconsistently focus on how we can continue to be innovative with our grant making, and how our learning caninfluence long term change in funding and public engagement practice.

    Key responsibilities

    The main responsibilities of this role are to:

    • Work with the Head of Grants to deliver an innovative programme that constantly evolves based on what welearn.
    • Deliver excellent grant-making using relational, flexible and participatoryapproaches.
    • Design and implement high-quality assessment, due diligence and grant management processes,continually reviewing and refining the approach.
    • Support the assessment and delivery of a portfolio of'evidence building' grants, with projects due to begin in January 2025.
    • Design and implement learningand evaluation strategies and processes, reviewing and refining as needed. Manage relationships and/or contractswith learning partners where appropriate.
    • Support local Development Coordinators to:
      • Ensure theprogramme's aim of supporting underserved communities is fulfilled and the grants budget iscommitted.
      • Work with applicants and collaborators to develop high quality innovativeproposals.
      • Work with grant holders, collaborating researchers and project partners to overcomechallenges they might face in delivering their projects.
      • Collate and share local learning as part of anevidence building and practice sharing strategy, which is currently in development.
    • Developand manage a small pipeline of discretionary 'infrastructure' grants to add value to the portfolio and/or makesystemic impact at local or national level, if necessary.
    • Develop bespoke application and grantmanagement and learning processes as appropriate.
    • Work with the Head of Grants to devise a learning anddevelopment plan for the Grants Team.
    • Build and engage a network of key stakeholders to ensuresuccessful delivery of the programme.
    • Champion innovation in supporting community/researchercollaboration, community-led research, systems change and grant-making across relevant sectors including:
      • Sharing learning, practice and ideas with a broad range of stakeholders through a range ofapproaches.
      • Representing the British Science Association at external events to share innovation andlearning.
      • Develop and deliver events and/or content to showcase practice.
    • Support theHead of Grants with developing the BSA's strategy around future grants programmes.

    In addition, the post-holder will be expected to:

    • Support colleagues across the organisation, especially at busy times or on specific areas ofexpertise.
    • Undertake assessment or grant management work on other programmes as required.
    • Otherduties as reasonably required by the line manager.

    Our Head Office is based in London, but we have an agile working policy enabling people to work at another UKlocation up to 4 days/week.

    Permanent remote working in the UK is possible and we welcome applications from people based in other parts of theUK. We are happy to consider secondments.

    Carnegie UK offers a flexible and supportive working environment and exceptional terms and conditions. We operate a35-hour working week and provide 5 paid days each year for volunteering.
