At the Avon Orthopaedic Centre (one the largest in the South West), our expertise in hip and knee surgery has earned us international acclaim, and we carry out approximately 1,000 knee operations each year, supported by 745 members of staff.

We also have specialist services for spinal injuries, lower limb reconstruction, and upper limb reconstruction. Our Orthopedic Department is one of Europe's premier facilities for foot and ankle related treatments.

Our Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital is one of the two primary centres serving the South West of England.

It is equipped with a helipad and has major specialisms in neurosurgery, burns, and plastics.

It is supported by a total of six acute trusts, as designated trauma units, and helps increase the chances of survival for patients who are in a critical condition.

Our Trauma Centre is designed to make sure that all the patients who are admitted to us have the access to specialist equipment and expertise they need, across our orthopaedics, neurosurgery, and our radiology teams.
