Your role at a glance

The team

This is a 12 month internship as part of TPR's established internship programme, based in the Analysis and Insight team.

In your placement, you will gain valuable experience of working on real world analytical projects that both matter to TPR and help us get the best value for pension savers.


Although we can't say what your exact projects will be yet, with 2 rotations you will have the opportunity to acquire diverse analytical and data skills.

With your first 6 months spent in analytics and your second 6 months working as an intern in our Data Science team, your work will range from data visualisation to statistical modelling.


Working within a large team, you will also have the opportunity to grow your analytical network, both learning from and contributing to the wider team's work.

With demand for analytical projects across TPR, you will work collaboratively with stakeholders to provide analytical insight and evidence that supports our organisation's strategy.


Job description:


What you'll do
Whilst in the Analytics role, you will learn and develop skills to:

  • Use SQL to manipulate large, complex datasets providing key information to internal and external stakeholders including public Freedom of Information requests.
  • Create PowerBI dashboards to visualise data

Whilst in the Data Exploitation role, you will:

  • Work closely with an experienced Data Scientist on a Data Science project covering Machine Learning or Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Gain experience using open source scripting languages like R or Python
  • Use Power BI, Shiny or Dash to visualise data


In both teams you will learn to work directly with stakeholders to identify their requirements, agree milestones and communicate your results.

What you'll bring
Essential Criteria

  • Awareness/knowledge of statistical or analytical software, including one of R, SQL, Python or Power BI.
  • Awareness/knowledge of bivariate / multivariate statistical modelling, time series analysis, and forecasting.
  • Awareness/knowledge of evaluating data sources for suitability, reliability & accuracy.
  • Awareness/limited experience of communicating complex concepts in a clear and accurate manner.
Desirable Criteria

  • Desire to use data to provide clarity and insight to a complex business problem.
  • Awareness/knowledge of basic mechanisms of the economy, the financial system and relevant interlinkages.
  • Awareness/knowledge of the implementation of robust standards and quality assurance procedures in analytics.
