Outside Officer
Grade 5, £27,508 - £30,814 (inclusive of local weighting) depending on experience.
Part-time working (22 Hours a week).
Permanent Secondment.
Based in Hertford with the option for home working.

Do you have the skills to be an Outside Officer in Revenues and Benefits? Our outside officer positions' combines the role of Revenues Inspector and Visiting Officer.

The bulk of your work will be inspections for Council Tax and Non Domestic Rates, however you will be required on occasion to visit people in their own homes to collect or deliver documents or assist with the completion of our forms.

You will need to monitor the progress of New Builds within the district and report and register them when they have been completed.

You will need to have excellent customer service skills to answer and deal with face to face enquiries from customers as well as responding to telephone and written enquiries, as necessary.

You will provide explanations and clarification of decisions and actions taken and give general advice and guidance relating to legislation, policy and procedures.

You will also be expected to refer possible irregularities in benefit claims to the Fraud Team.

Outside Officer's work in a specific geographic area but you will need to provide cover for other Officers in the East Herts District and Stevenage Borough if required.

You must be able to drive and have access to a car as your work will require you to visit both urban and rural areas.

About you
This role will suit a enthusiastic team player who enjoys a customer facing environment.

  • Proven relevant experience in a Revenues/Benefit or similar environment.
  • Experience in a similar environment
  • Experience of using Revenues and Housing/ Council Tax Benefit software
  • Ability to relay complex information clearly in relation to Benefits, Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates verbally and in writing
  • Ability to make decisions in relation to Revenues liability, payment arrangements and recovery procedures etc. as appropriate.
  • Ability and willingness to help support and provide guidance, support and advice to less experienced staff
  • Relevant legislative knowledge
  • Knowledge of Windows based office package
