County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) is looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to manage the day to day running of the services health & safety function.

The _
health & safety_ section forms part of the Emergency Responsedirectorate and is responsible for ensuring the Service meets it's legal, moral, and financial duties related to health, safety, and welfare.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading on the management of health & safety, responding to queries, providing advice, solutions, and general support,
- Monitoring, auditing, and developing the health and safety management system within CDDFRS,
- Ensuring accidents, injuries, and investigation reports are accurately recorded, and statistics are compiled to identify causes and trends,
- Leading on and quality assurance of all incident investigations to ensure compliance with enforcement authority guidance,
- Assist with the development, coordination, and the delivery of health and safety information, instruction, and training to staff,
- Oversee the identification, coordination, completion, and approval of appropriate risk assessments. Provide appropriate advice on and quality assurance of suitable and sufficient risk assessments,
- Develop, implement, and review health & safety policies, procedures, and the Service legal register in line with best practice and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation,
- Monitor current and future national policy and advise the Service accordingly,
- Advise and lead in the completion of planned and unplanned inspections of premises, plant, and equipment to ensure that current health and safety policies are in place in conjunction with representative bodies,
- Liaise with relevant agencies in respect of civil liability claims,
- Develop and maintain positive collaborative relationship with all relevant internal and external stakeholders,
- Collate and present information on health & safety performance,
- Represent the health & safety function at relevant Service meeting and groups and contribute to relevant committees, meetings, seminars and participate in task groups as required,
- Maintain the Services health & safety SharePoint site and deliver staff communications by various methods including written, verbal, in person and video.
The ideal person profile includes:
- NEBOSH Diploma,
- Grad Membership of IOSH,
- CMI Level 3 Management qualification or equivalent Level 3 Management qualification,
- Clear evidence of continuous professional development,
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience of advising senior leadership and proactively building relationships and collaborating with stakeholders,
- Experience of working in a health and safety role with demonstrable success,
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex information,
- Ability to support an environment of continuous improvement,
- Experience of formulating and implementing policies and procedures,
- High standard of IT skills,
- Understand the functions of relevant organisations e.g., HSE, TUC,
- Awareness of relevant workplace legislation and directives,
- Ability to interpret legislation and advise on implications and solutions,
- Ability to write accurate and effective reports on Health & Safety and technical matters,
- Ability to understand and translate current and new legislation and best practice into workable Service policies,
- Openness to change,
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
