    Job Description

    Heritage Building Surveyor / Architect

    Company Description

The Historic Building Advisory Service is an established niche Chartered Surveying and historic building consultancy based near Salisbury, that works across the UK and sometimes beyond. We provide professional surveying and heritage consultancy services, tailored to meet the requirements of an impressive and eclectic range of clients and their diverse historic buildings and landscapes. These can be both challenging and professionally rewarding to work with and where few days are the same.

    Role Description

If you have experience with or an enthusiasm for historic buildings, structures and landscapes and you are looking for a varied and sometimes demanding job, where you can manage your own workload, then we would like to hear from you.

You will help deliver a wide range of survey types and sizes as well as feasibility studies, that can vary from simple internal design changes to relocating Second World War fortifications or the re-use of redundant building and sites. At other times it might be designing, specifying, overseeing repairs and alterations to all forms or buildings, which could be houses, churches or almost any form of structure from concept through planning to completion. In between times it might be providing professional advice and guidance on all aspects of building construction, repair, conservation or legislative matters that someone wants to know.

You will work with a small team delivering projects that are varied and will often be a learning experience as there is very rarely a standard response. This is within a commercial environment and where we deliver a good professional standard of service. To enable that, we will try and help you with relevant continued personal development, and training for mutual benefit to achieve that.

    The Job Includes

    • Liaison with clients to understand and develop their requirements
    • Historic building analysis and building pathology
    • Design and intervention of new and repair work in an historic environment
    • Specification preparation
    • Developing and handling planning building and regulation applications
    • Working closely with other members of the team, clients and contractors
    • Contract administration and over sight of work on site
    • Continued training and professional development

    The Person

    • Experience as a building surveyor, architect or an architectural technician in a commercial conservation environment
    • Able to provide a good professional service to clients
    • Have a good working knowledge of building construction – modern and historic
    • RICS, RIBA, CIOB or CIAT desirable
