Milestone Infrastructure is currently looking to recruit a Senior Environmental Advisor to work on highways and transport construction projects across Hampshire.


This is an exciting opportunity to join our Environment Team at Milestone Infrastructure, with opportunities to develop yourself and progress within a dynamic and innovative organisation.

As the environmental lead for the highways contract, you will be responsible for the environmental management of construction projects and supporting the delivery of the ambitious carbon and sustainability targets of our clients.

Milestone Infrastructure sits within M Group Services Transport Division, positioned to support transport clients across the UK.

As the Senior Environmental Advisor your duties & responsibilities will be:

  • Supporting delivery of construction projects for the contracts, providing technical environmental advice, direction, support and assistance to key internal and external stakeholders to enable them to manage their environmental duties and responsibilities
  • Measure, manage and reduce carbon associated with contract operations as part of an integrated delivery team. Work with the Council in order to implement a Carbon Reduction Strategy for contract
  • Managing the ISO14001 Environment Management System, including hosting external audits
  • Conducting both onsite environmental compliance inspections and engagement visits
  • Delivering briefings and training to workforce
  • Progress initiatives including carbon reduction, biodiversity gain and sparking interest and supporting the client to further their own sustainability aspirations
  • Measure and manage waste, projects and waste facilities
  • Producing monthly and annual reports in line with Milestone Infrastructure and client KPIs
  • Lead on environmental incident investigations, and support and advise on corrective actions
  • Represent and promote the Environment Team in internal and external meetings, workshops, management reviews and forums communicating best practice standards and initiatives
  • Support other Environmental Advisors within the team

How will you be measuring success, overall competency and capability:

  • Actioning contract environmental risks and opportunities
  • Successful project management of environmental issues, resulting in timely programme delivery
  • Quality of inspections and audits
  • Development and implementation of improvement projects, innovation, alternative ways of working which add value
  • Delivery of training
  • Project(s) compliance with ISO14001, and relevant permits/consents
  • Communication and engagement with contract teams and the supply chain
  • Collaboration with the wider environment team to deliver the Milestone Infrastructure Environment & Sustainability Strategy

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Demonstrable construction industry experience or relevant environmental experience in a similar sector
  • Degree level in appropriate Environmental discipline (ideal)
  • Associate or Practitioner Membership of IEMA or equivalent professional membership
  • Competent IT Skills
  • Good track record of managing ecological, waste and contaminated land risks on construction projects
  • Carbon management experience
  • Strong team player who is selfmotivated
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel across projects/ contracts
