    Job summary

    The Clinical Support Technologist team within the Clinical Engineering Department, operate primarily in the Adult and Paediatric Intensive Care Units, and interact closely with medical, nursing and other technical staff, often assisting directly with patient interventions. Primary roles include setting up and checking equipment, such as ventilators and dialysis machines prior to use, and also providing advice, support and assistance in the use of medical equipment and systems throughout the hospital, such as Nitric Oxide therapy and networked patient monitoring. Some current technology is complex and a level of technical understanding beyond its basic clinical application is often required. The Clinical Support Technologists endeavour to ensure that users of such equipment have detailed technical advice and support when needed. Clinical Support Technologists are required to respond to novel situations using intuition and initiative, to make decisions and take the required action based on sound knowledge, training and experience.

    Main duties of the job

    This is a band 5 post to work as a Clinical Engineering Technologist. Following 1-2 years of training and development the candidate may have an opportunity to progress on to a specialist post at a band 6 level. This may be suitable for new graduates or those who wish to develop their career in Clinical Technology and Medical Equipment Management.

    You should be:

  • Qualified to at least degree level in a technical or scientific subject
  • A skilled communicator able to deal with internal/external, technical and clinical staff
  • Highly motivated and able to work safely under pressure
  • It will be an advantage to have:

  • Experience of working in a hospital or other technical or engineering experience
  • Experience of a wide range of medical equipment
