About the People & Culture Department
The People & Culture directorate (approx. 40 staff) is organised across five distinct core functions, aligned to the delivery of our People Strategy - Talent Acquisition, Employee Experience & Development, Operations, Systems & Services, Employee Relations & Policy and Health, Safety & Wellbeing.


The People & Culture directorate is responsible, in partnership with customers across the organisation, for delivering the University of East London's People strategy, in furtherance of the UELs strategic progress outlined in our Vision 2028 strategy.

It is passionate about the delivery customer-centric and operationally excellent services to build an environment where people are attracted to work at UEL, to be supported to develop and grow, and deliver their best work in a hard-working and encouraging environment.


About the Job


You'll lead the Reward & Recognition specialist, inspiring them to deliver high performance whilst truly valuing the diversity they bring.


The role will also be responsible for ensuring all policies, processes and procedures relating to reward, recognition and payroll are reviewed and maintained regularly.


Some of the key deliverables of the role include:

  • Design, develop, deliver, and embed a Reward and Recognition Strategy for the University, ensuring connection to the People Strategy, the University's business strategy and Vision 202
  • Develop a strategic delivery plan, which ensures timely delivery of the Reward Strategy, making priority decisions according to budget, resource allocation and customer needs.
  • Bring thought leadership, knowledge, experience, and innovation in all areas of Reward & Recognition including Pay, Benefits, using Reward & Recognition as a lever to enhance engagement and drive cultural change, Career Frameworks, Recognition, working with the Reward & Recognition specialist to create a Reward offering that's engaging, impactful and achieves results to drive business outcomes.
  • Work with the People and Culture Business Partners to review Organisational design across the University to inform pay framework infrastructure including Job families and role design.
  • Be a leadership role model lead the Reward function through truly valuing diversity of thought, prioritising inclusion and driving high performance.

About You


You'll be a passionate reward professional who's been the key lead for all things Reward and Recognition and understands how important reward and recognition is to drive cultural change and achieve our Business Strategy.

You'll be used to dealing with different audiences and being proactive in your engagement and how you collaborate.

This could be your first Head of Reward and Recognition role - maybe coming from a larger organisation and keen to take ownership, bring innovation and drive things forward or you could be an existing Head of Reward, from a different industry looking to try new things Either way, your positive, can-do mindset and determination to make a difference is what we need at UEL.

This is a great opportunity to get stuck in and transform how we approach Reward and Recognition at UEL.
