    Description

Victoria Vets is a welcoming, independent 9-vet small animal practice in the beautiful Peak District. We are looking for an additional vet to join our team, and we can't wait to show you some of our new facilities.

We are dedicated to providing compassionate and exceptional care to our beloved animal companions. Our ethos revolves around creating a warm and friendly atmosphere where our colleagues and clients feel like an extended family. We believe in fostering a strong sense of community and support amongst our team, as we understand the importance of work-life balance and its positive impact on overall well-being.

Our commitment to a harmonious work-life balance ensures that our vets have the time and energy to provide the best care possible to our patients. We value the experience and expertise of our team, and we continuously encourage professional growth and development. Together, we strive to maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone's contributions are acknowledged and appreciated.

Joining our practice means becoming a part of a close-knit, family-oriented team that shares a passion for animals and a commitment to excellence. If you're a skilled veterinary surgeon with a heart for animals and a desire for a supportive and fulfilling work environment, we'd love to welcome you to our practice.

Our main practice is based in the heart of Glossop, and we have a branch surgery that we're currently expanding in Chapel-en-le-Frith. We are an ISFM Silver Cat-friendly practice with all the latest equipment, and we've also just unpacked our brand-new class 4 laser and endoscope (sorry, nurses).

    Our team

Rebecca, our head vet and owner with over 30 years of clinical experience took the reins at Victoria Vets in 2011. As well as a wealth of surgical and medical experience, she offers acupuncture for our patients and is our practice VetGDP.

Matt, who came on board in 2009, is a whiz at soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, and he performs procedures such as BOAS, TPLOs, fracture repairs, and hip toggles.

Rob is a 2008 Cambridge graduate who worked at the RVC before joining the team. He briefly left before rejoining us in 2016. It's great to have him back, and his passion for cardiology and medicine is about to take him down the certificate route.

Ashley is a fantastic GP vet who really enjoys small animal surgery. Becky joined us as a new graduate in 2018 and is particularly interested in medicine and general surgery. Victoria absolutely loves dermatology, and Joanna originally joined us as a locum but, thankfully for us, ended up staying, and she now helps us run our healthcare plans.

Rebecca took over Victoria Vets from the lovely Elspeth, who continues to work with us part-time, bringing her to over 30 years with the practice From the longest-standing to the newest team member, Bethany joined us in June 2023 after graduating from the RVC. She completed EMS placement with us, and we are excited to have her on board as she starts her professional journey.

As well as our own fantastic team, we are also very lucky to benefit from the expertise of peripatetic orthopaedic surgeon Gareth Harries, an advanced practitioner in small animal surgery. He often visits us to undertake complex orthopaedic procedures and is always happy for us to get involved.

Rachel, our Practice Manager, has been with us for a whopping 23 years She started as a student nurse and worked her way up to Head Nurse in 2010. Then, in 2016, she made the move into management. Rachel is passionate about medical nursing and is training to become an Animal Physiotherapist. We're an RCVS nurse training practice with a very experienced nursing team of eleven RVNs, two SVNs, and one auxiliary nurse, all led by Head Nurse Sarah-Jane. Our fantastic reception and admin team support us and keep our days running smoothly.

Here's what some of the team have to say about being part of the Victoria Vet team ...

"I enjoy working for Victoria Vets as the caseload is varied, and every day is different. Everyone is keen to learn, sharing ideas, knowledge and experience in order to continually provide outstanding care for our patients."

"Great team dynamic, fabulous nurses who get stuff done and a vet team who work together, with no such thing as stupid questions."

"A workplace where you can discuss cases with colleagues and where the clinical team is giving their best whilst still managing the occasional laugh, along with the more serious aspects of the day whilst caring for a diverse client load."

"Working with a friendly team, we have a good variety of cases and the freedom & kit to work them up properly. It's also a great location for access to outdoor hobbies."

"I have worked at Victoria Vets since being a student nurse in 2001. The practice has a real family feel, and I have received a huge amount of support to enable me to progress my career during my time here."

"I love working here as the reception team are all so approachable and friendly, and we all pull together when needed. No day is the same, and I enjoy seeing all the different animals that come through our doors and chatting with their owners."

"Although having only joined the practice just over two months ago, I have settled in well with the reception team. It is obvious that they are a great bunch of friendly, supportive and caring ladies :)"

" I love working in Glossop as I feel you get to know the clients and their pets more personally and feel we are a valuable part of the community."

"I love being part of the VV team as my colleagues are all friendly and supportive not only professionally but also personally, and we all enjoy spending time together for social occasions."

"One of the main things I like about working at VV is being part of my local community. I love getting to know clients and their pets. I feel like I am making a difference in a small way."

"I like working with a supportive team and strong client relationships. I like working at Victoria Vets because of the variety - no two days are the same. It's nice interacting with the lovely clients and patients on their life journey and watching them develop."

    The rota

Our full-time vets work a 4-day week, with an equal share of operating (9-7), second ops (8-4), and consulting (9-6) shifts, giving you plenty of opportunity to practice your skills and expand your knowledge with the support of our team.

Our out-of-hours emergencies are outsourced to Vets Now. We do look after our inpatients, and our RVNs are responsible for the inpatient checks and care. This means you can be on-call for inpatients from home, which is just one weeknight per week and only 1:6 weekends, including the only Saturday morning consults in the rota The phones go over to Vets Now at 7 p.m. during the week and at 1 p.m. on Saturdays, so if there are no inpatients at the end of your shift, you're free to make other plans for the rest of the weekend.

We plan the rota so that your days off following your weekend fall on Friday and the following Monday, giving you a long weekend off, plus no inpatient care the following week either.

    Outside of work

We really enjoy socialising and having fun together. We have a very active group of gym enthusiasts and dog walkers, as shown in our video above We also enjoy practice get-togethers like our trip to North Wales, where we all stayed in a hostel and enjoyed an action-packed time at Go-Ape, with zip wires, caving, and tree-top adventures. Turns out that quite a few of the team don't like heights

Glossop is a lovely market town in the Peak District. It's a great place to live and work, with plenty of independent shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants to enjoy. It's an excellent base for exploring some of the Peak District's classic walking country, including Black Hill, Bleaklow, Kinder Scout and the Longdendale Valley. There is easy access to Sheffield, and you can reach central Manchester in 30 minutes by train. There are also two international airports, Manchester and Liverpool, within an hour's drive of the practice – perfect for easy access to a long weekend getaway.
