    What we need you to do

    As our Head of SHEQ you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) requirements within the business and across the multi-site operation. The Head of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality will be responsible for delivering and maintaining a SHEQ change programme to embed and develop a positive culture across the organisation.

    You will drive and improve employee engagement, safety, and quality within the organisation by providing professional advice and support on all health, safety, environment, and quality matters, to all levels of employees within the business, meeting legal responsibilities, maintaining certifications, and promoting best practice.

    As part of this role, you will ensure that Integrated Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems are created, implemented, kept, and improved in accordance with the requirements of ISO standards. You be responsible for developing safety policies, audits, reporting, analysis and outlining operational objectives and driving continuous improvement.

    • The 4 main areas of focus will be – Strategy & Communication, Safety & Health, Environment, Quality.
    • Create and maintain a vibrant health & safety culture.
    • Mentor & support departmental safety & environmental activities.
    • Support departmental management in the development of risk assessments & safe systems of work.
    • Support departmental management in the investigation of accidents & incidents.
    • Develop site emergency plan.
    • Ensure regulatory and compliance in all areas.
    • Maintain and publish a calendar of key safety activities and regulatory inspection dates.
    • Set & manage site KPI's.
    • Act as the Principal Designer for the business, advise and assist clients in the appointment of designers and contractors; review H&S implications of procurement methods in respect of CDM 2015 Regulations.
    • Establish a record of principles and decisions taken in relation to health and safety from design inception, then monitoring and reporting to completion.
    • Receive and provide strategic briefs, advising on the development of the project brief, ensuring appropriate notification to HSE of project particulars.
    • Carry out design reviews with team members and co-ordinating health and safety matters.
    • Ensure that designers have considered and established safe methods for construction of unusual or complex designs, including this as part of the pre-construction information.
    • Compile and issue pre-construction information both to the design team and the principal contractor.
    • Review and comment on principal contractor's construction phase plans on behalf of the client and advising when these are considered developed sufficiently for work to start on site.
    • Compile health and safety files during the project and handover to the client on completion.
    • Represent the company in a professional and diligent manner with our client and their appointed designers and contractors, to form strong working relationships.
    • Compile construction phase plans and execute F10 notification as per legislation guideline. Responsible for the creation and upkeep of the company Environmental plans, including our journey to Nett Zero, and manage all relative metrics required, especially aligned to GRESB.

    • Ability to plan, coordinate and communicate the ongoing build plan with those involved in the process and across the business effectively and confidently.
    • Credibility, gravitas, confidence and the ability to influence will be paramount to success in this role.
    • Ability to quickly assimilate information and innovate to find solutions that improve delivery performance - both in individual projects and across the entire program.

    Personal Qualities:

    Commercial understanding, honesty, discretion and fair-mindedness rank high with a persuasive, personality and an ability to deal with conflict. Both "Grace under fire" and an aptitude for dealing with change and ambiguity are a MUST.

    Qualifications:

    • Recognised professional qualification in construction health and safety, eg NEBOSH diploma, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, etc.
    • Working towards Certification and/or incorporated member of the Association for Project Safety (CMaPS/IMaPS).
    • Substantial experience delivering CDM co-ordinator/principal designer services (as defined in the CDM 2015 Regulations) to a range of sector clients.
    • Substantial experience within the telecommunications construction sector.
    • Excellent written and spoken English.
    • Clean driving licence.
    • Good technical writing and communication skills and client-facing experience.
    • Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute.
