    Head of Engineering Practices | Software | DevOps | Global Financial Services Firm | London, Hybrid | up to £140k + Strong Bonus, Benefits

    Headquartered in London City, the Technology Division has a global footprint, with operations in Asia, the USA and the UAE.


    As the Head of Engineering Practices , you will be responsible for the DDI Frontend and Backend development teams, reporting directly to the Head of DDI.

    You will drive the vision, design, strategy, and implementation of integrated systems in order to support the business, leading the development teams and collaborating with other business departments, in order to roll out new systems and implement the ongoing process improvements of the current systems.


    Your areas of focus will include:
    Development Process Improvements
    Implementing and ensuring the firm is working within the right software governance and development standards
    Implementing KPIs to monitor the delivery and quality of software against development standards
    Implementation of the best development standards, within secure NIST frameworks


    You will handle high-level challenges and balance quality software with speed, and you will be responsible for feature deployment, stability of the business's core platform, and the overall quality of the business's web architecture.


    The salary on offer for this Head of Engineering Practices Role is paying up to £140,000 + Bonus and Benefits Package.

    The role will be based in London City , working a hybrid model, with 3 days per week in the office, close to major stations including Moorgate and Liverpool Street.


    Your key areas of responsibility:

    Technical Leadership :
    Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to engineering teams. Define best practices, standards, and guidelines for software development, architecture, and quality assurance.

    Process Improvement :
    Continuously improve software development processes, methodologies, and tools. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows, enhance efficiency, and reduce time-to-market.

    Agile Transformation :
    Drive Agile adoption across engineering teams. Coach and mentor team members on Agile practices, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean principles.

    Quality Assurance and Testing :
    Oversee quality assurance processes, including test automation, code reviews, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD). Ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.

    Technical Excellence:
    Foster a culture of technical excellence by promoting innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning. Encourage engineers to stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies.

    Collaboration :
    Work closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and other technology leaders to align engineering practices with business goals. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams.

    Talent Development:
    Develop and nurture engineering talent. Identify skill gaps, provide training opportunities, and create career development paths for engineers.

    Risk Management:
    Assess technical risks related to software development and propose mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with security standards and regulatory requirements.

    Vendor Management :
    Collaborate with external vendors and partners to evaluate and integrate third-party tools, libraries, and services.

    Metrics and Reporting :
    Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for engineering practices. Regularly report on metrics related to code quality, delivery velocity, and team productivity.


    Essential Requirements:


    Proven track record leading and managing engineering teams in the successful delivery of complex software projects and the management of a release lifecycle.

    Extensive hands-on experience in software development practices across various technologies and programming languages relevant to the organisation's tech stack.
    Experience working with GitHub repositories and associated management of those.
    Demonstrated experience in driving Agile transformation within engineering teams, including implementing Agile methodologies, practices, and ceremonies.
    Track record of defining, implementing, and optimising engineering processes and best practices to improve efficiency, quality, and delivery speed.
    Proficiency in DevOps principles and practices, such as infrastructure as code, automated deployment pipelines, and monitoring and observability.

    Ability to align engineering practices with business goals and objectives, developing and executing strategic plans to drive innovation, scalability, and competitiveness.

    Working within a NIST framework, ensuring the security of data and development pipelines.
