    Headquartered in Elstree, Herts, BPL part of Kedrion, are an organisation where our products change people's lives, and the purpose of our work is lived and breathed through its people.

    Bio Products Laboratory manufactures pharmaceutical products derived from human blood plasma.

    These products are used to treat patients for conditions such as immunodeficiencies, coagulation disorders and critical care (blood volume deficiency).

    We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Calibration Technicianto join our Engineering team located in Elstree, Herts.

    The main purpose of your job role will be;

    • To include the undertaking of fault finding/repair and calibration on a wide range of equipment, including routine preventive and breakdown maintenance. In addition, you will be required to develop and commission new and existing instrumentation and control systems.
    • Maintenance, calibration, repair, and continual development of all process and utility equipment within the mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control scope of the Engineering Department with due regard to all relevant regulations, guidelines and practices.
    • To work to GMP and GxP standards at all times. (FDA, MHRA, and other regulatory bodies as required.)
    Key Duties and Responsibilities will be;

    • Routine calibration of utility, process and laboratory instrumentation.
    • Experience of calibrating various equipment, including pressure, temperature, flow, pH, UV, conductivity, level and weight sensors.
    • Knowledge of replacing, repairing and setup various instrumentation.
    • Collating and reviewing calibration data, looking for adverse trends and highlighting failures.
    • Supporting the installation, commissioning, and development of complex pharmaceutical equipment.
    • Maintaining documentary records relevant to all aspects of the job, both electronic and manual systems.
    • Maintaining and using GMP documentation for all aspects of the job as expected within a pharmaceutical environment.
    • Driving continuous improvement to all engineering processes and procedures through knowledge, innovation, and teamwork.
    • Providing a calibration service which is in accordance with company procedures and all manufacturing operations.
    • Assisting with Installation, Operational, and Process Qualification processes for new and existing equipment.
    • Carrying out autonomous maintenance activities as required.
    • Driving and delivering safe working practices in accordance with current legislation and BPL requirements.
    • Acting with due regard of current environmental legal requirements and BPL requirements.
    • Ensuring that all statutory engineering tasks are carried out in accordance with both legal and BPL requirements and recorded accordingly.
    • Ensuring all activities are carried out within the Right First Time principle
    • Making decisions relating to the successful completion of each task in hand, including but not limited to;
    • Root cause identification
    • Technical specifications
    • Operational requirements
    • Maintenance planning and scheduling.
    • Ensuring that parts and equipment comply with the required quality standards within the pharmaceutical and GMP environment.
    • Making technical decisions relating to engineering tasks and their impact on Operations, seeking guidance where necessary.
    • Deciding on individual work priorities within managerial guidelines.
    • Promoting BPL core purpose and communications strategy.
    • Acting as a role model and promote behaviours in keeping with BPL mission and values.
    • Ensuring that Health and Safety policies, standard Operating Procedures and National guidelines are always adhered to.
    • Flexibility is required in the performance of reasonable work needed by BPL which may not be detailed in this job description.
    • Other duties within the general scope of the post may be required from time to time. Changes will be discussed before implementation.

    • Ability to deputise for shift managers, and assist in the delivery of department objectives
    • Be able to work under pressure in sometimes complex conditions / scenarios / environments to provide a methodical and calm approach to problem solving
    Training & Education required;

    • HNC or equivalent formal qualification in main discipline
    • Full indentured apprenticeship with experience and additional study
    • Formal qualifications for statutory requirements such as B&P, L*, 17th ED
