Theorise is looking for a Personal Assistant to work with one of our Glasgow based clients.Working as part of Theorise external support team, the successful Personal Assistant will work on a one-to-one basis with a wheelchair using student at our clients' Glasgow campuses.
The Personal Assistant will be required to assist a visually impaired student getting to and from classes as well as assisting the student in a Note-Taking capacity to take clear and legible notes for their lectures.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Provide onetoone support to a visually impaired student, meeting them before and after classes.
- Producing accurate and legible typed notes for lectures, seminars/tutorials and group tasks.
- To review notes at the end of the class and ensure they are in a suitable format for the student to access effectively.
- To maintain a professional role as a Personal Assistant and be aware of the need to always maintain this positive but professional working relationship with the student.
- Deliver support according to Theorise and each of our clients' guidelines and codes of conduct.
- A flexible approach to working hours is required.
- Manage paperwork effectively, i.e. completing time sheets and any reports required.
- You will be expected to represent Theorise in a professional manner, this includes adhering to our policies regarding confidentiality and safeguarding.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience required
- We expect you to have excellent communication and organisational skills, a willingness to support students with particular needs, and an approachable, patient and understanding manner.
- Ability to discuss and understand how students would like their notes laid out and what to focus on.
- Experience of working with students in a higher education environment or having experience in studying at college or university level.
- Have a good touch typing speed able to produce legible notes
- Experience of working with students in a higher education environment or having experience in studying at college or university level is preferable.
- Experience in working with individuals with visual impairments is highly preferential.
The role will commence from the end of January and support will be required on Tuesday's and Wednesday's from 11am - 1pm on both days.
This role will take place fully on a face-to-face basis with no option of remote support so applicants must be based or willing to travel to Glasgow Caledonian University.
