    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Nurse to lead the Children in Care and Youth Justice Service within the Wakefield area.

    It is a very friendly team that strives for constant improvement and consists of Nurses and Nursing Associates.

    The successful candidate will have many years experience in working in the community and be a Children's Nurse or hold the Specialist Children's Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) qualification.

    The role involves having a sound professional knowledge of the needs of Children in Care and children in the Youth Justice Service and ensuring that the service is evidenced based and addresses these needs.

    The post holder will be working with diverse professionals and leading on task and finish groups to ensure multiagency working is meeting the needs of the children, as well as leading a team of Nurses.

    The role involves driving so a drivers license and a car are essential.

    Main duties of the job

    The Nursing Team for Children in Care (CIC) and Youth Justice Services(YJS) are integral to the statutory health needs assessment process and toenabling young people and care leavers to achieve optimum health and wellbeing.

    The post holderwill be a Childrens Nurse or a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse(SCPHN) who lead the CIC nursing team to promote the health and wellbeing ofChildren in Care. The post holder will facilitate multi agency colleagues,including Health Visitors and School Nurses, Social Care and the VoluntarySector in ensuring that children receive health care appropriate to theiridentified needs.

    They will be responsible fordelivering and leading highly specialist clinical care to their own caseloadand service, and. they will work to professional and regulatory body codes,standards and guidance at all times ensuring that their practice is grounded inevidence based theoretical and practical knowledge. They will be responsiblefor developing new and innovative clinical practices responding to emergingknowledge and techniques and working with other services where appropriate tomake improvements.

    The post holderwill maximise the health of Children in Care and Young People through healthassessment, health promotion, disease prevention and health interventions toachieve maximum health benefits.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provideclinical service for Children in Care including Unaccompanied Asylum SeekingChildren/ young people, children with complex health needs and Care Leavers.

    To linemanager the Youth Justice Service Nurse.

    AssistMid Yorkshire Hospital Trust in fulfilling its responsibilities as a providerservice, working alongside commissioners to improve health outcomes forChildren in Care across the District and within a 50 mile radius.

    Provide information as requested, in verbal and written formats asappropriate.

    Ensureappropriate mechanisms are in place to promote and sustain effective workingrelationships between staff and partner agencies in developing, promoting andaddressing the health needs of Children in Care.

    Workingwithinmulti-agency processes to identify potential risk of harm to children in ourcare.

    Providesupport and advice to all relevant staff within the trust and other agencies inrelation to the health needs of Children in Care and Young People.

    Toprovide specialist advice, supervision and support to your defined caseload andteam.

    Providesupport and supervision as required to staff in the team or students onplacement.

    To undertake Health Needs Assessments andtherapeutic interventions with CIC & young People, and co-ordinate Healthrecommendations. Be responsible for auditing the completed health assessmentprocess and ensuring that each child or young person has a current, up to datehealth plan in line with statutory requirements. Feed back to staff on their training needswith regard to completing health assessments.

    Work directly with Children in Care, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children/young people and Care Leavers who cannot/do not engage with mainstream servicesto provide advice and support on issues relating to health and wellbeing.

    Attendappropriate strategy meetings and Team around the Child and planning meetingsto provide a health perspective and assessment of risk to the child or youngperson and ensure multi-agency working is adhered to.

    Contributeto the development of a district wide database for Children in Care throughsubmission of accurate and timely information, and contribute to achievinghealth assessments for this group of children.Be able to identify unmet health needs / gaps in service provision andpromote innovative ideas to meeting those needs.

    Keepself-updated regarding all issues concerning safeguarding, including legal,research and government policy in order to ensure that advice given toprofessionals follows current best practice. Adhere to NMC Code of Professionalconduct and be conversant with the scope of professional practice.

    Workwithin national and local guidelines. Ensure that all care is research basedand delivered to an agreed standard, working with appropriate evaluationprocesses. Be willing to participate in research and audit and disseminatefindings across the district in order to influence future development of theservice

    As a Band 7 Lead nurse, you will be expectedto professionally lead the team.

    As aband 7 Nurse you will be responsible for supporting and leading identified andagreed aspects of the service, in the development of care systems, protocolsand guidelines working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and developingexcellent interdepartmental relationships with excellent communication with afocus on quality improvement.

    Essential

  • Must either have a Childrens Nursing qualification RSCN / RN (child) 1st level or a SCPHN qualification

  • Appropriate statutory professional body registration
  • Must be willing to participate in any relevant training identified to develop skills to carry out duties.
  • Maintains a portfolio of CPD in line with regulatory body standards.
  • Teaching, training or mentorship qualification or experience to an equivalent level.
