    Chef - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

    Job Type: Full Time - Permanent

    We are looking for a Chef to join our existing catering team at Highbury Hospital, Nottingham.

    You would prepare meals to a high standard whilst closely adhering to any religious or dietary requirements for our patients. Excellent customer service skills required as there is a high level of interaction with our service users. To assist in the keeping of all records to meet statutory requirements. Candidates must be NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in catering, together with a basic food handling certificate as a minimum.

    If successful, you will be required to apply for a Disclosure at the Advanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

    Annual Salary Circa £24,000 including enhancements.

    A day in the life of a Chef at Highbury Hospital..

    • Responsible for provision of food to patients, staff and visitors
    • Meeting nutritional requirements and completing quality records as required
    • Working on a rota as part of a team and ensuring preparation of all food is carried out in a safe, hygienic manner.
    • You'll be supervising 2-4 catering assistants
    • Produce patient meals 3 times a day (approx. 200+ meals at peak times) and provide food for the hospitality services internally and externally at regular frequencies on a daily basis.
    • Visit wards and day hospitals to check on standards of food served to patients and report findings to Senior Catering Coordinator/Head Chef
    • Ensure all storage areas are in a clean and tidy condition, ensuring stock is rotated and within date
    • Wear protective clothing at all times whilst on duty and show a proper sense of responsibility at all times
    • Attend the vending machines out of restaurant hours
    • Participate in special functions as and when required
    • Organise daily menus, plan and prioritise cooking methods, times and procedures
    • Be allergy aware and cater for many different diets.
    • Assist with the cleaning of equipment in the kitchen and your work areas using the correct chemicals, and comply with SSOW and COSHH regulations at all times
    • Guide catering assistants and porters in their duties

    You'll be set up for success if you...

    • Have a City and Guilds 706 Level 1 and 2 or equivalent
    • C.I.E.H Foundation Health and Safety Certificate
    • 2 years experience as a qualified Chef
    • Ability to cook small and large quantities including special diets
    • Experience of quality monitoring of food production
    • Excellent communicator and flexible
    • Ability to complete documentation accurately
    • C.I.e.H Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate (or be willing to work towards via our online e-learning)
