So. What is this role exactly?


We are looking to add to and strengthen our Compliance Team by providing technical support to manage and quality check passive fire safety works as part of YHG's fire risk assessment programme.


We are looking for a technically competent and self-motivated individual who has fantastic people skills for this customer-safety focused role.


What will my working week look like?


You will travel around your allocated geographical patch, although there may be a requirement to travel to any of the areas (Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Staffordshire and Yorkshire) to meet business needs.

You will be reimbursed for your business mileage.


You will also live within a reasonable travelling distance of our Head Office in Birchwood, Warrington to attend meetings and training courses.


What will I be responsible for doing?


First and foremost, you will be required to undertake a range of inspections to identify works required to meet fire safety and building regulations.

You will also monitor delivery of works by carrying out progress and post completion inspections to ensure work is completed to a high standard and in line with building and fire safety regulations.


One of the great things about this role is that you will have the ability to make a real difference for our customers and stakeholders by ensuring we put customer safety at the heart of everything we do.


You will be proactive in supporting YHG to complete/remediate any open FRA actions and will work closely with our passive fire protection contractors to find solutions to any problems that may be preventing FRA actions from being completed.


The health, safety and wellbeing of our customers, colleagues and members of the public is paramount and so you will be expected to be fully conversant with all relevant Health & Safety legislation.


You will work closely with our passive fire prevention contractors and will be able to confidently and professionally challenge contractor performance and quality of works either on site or during formal contractor meetings, ensuring compliance with CDM requirements.


The role will also involve liaising with colleagues in other teams such as Housing Management, Older People Services and Planned Investment to provide technical support and surveys for works delivered outside of the Compliance Team as required.

  • A relevant qualification such as a degree in Building Surveying
  • Experience of working in a social housing environment, in particular buildings with communal areas
  • Experience of working with/managing contractors and feel confident to professionally challenge poor standards of work
  • Sound knowledge of building regulations including Approved Document B and an awareness of fire safety legislation
  • IT literate with experience of using systems including Microsoft excel and housing management systems, ideally Orchard


Ideally you will be a collaborative team player, self-motivated and flexible in your approach that strives for excellence in all that you do.

You must be willing to undertake ongoing learning and training as part of your role to keep up to date on new building regulations and fire safety legislation.


This role is really suited to someone who has strong interpersonal skills with a customer focused approached to service delivery and passion for customer safety.


This role also offers genuine progression opportunities within the team or digression into other areas of the Asset Strategy & Management directorate.
