An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and organised Specialist Nurse or Allied Health professional (AHPs) to provide professional, clinical guidance and expertise in the speciality of Parkinson's disease and movement disorders.


The role will involve working with and supporting Parkinson's disease Nurse Consultant, Movement disorders consultants and the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach to care.

You will be providing and establishing clear lines of communication with primary and secondary healthcare teams in order to increase specialist knowledge and facilitate care for patients with Parkinson's disease, and supervising treatments such device aided therapies (Apomorphine and Duodopa infusion) and Parkinson's medication.


This is a fantastic opportunity for a Nurse or AHPs, who is able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, utilise good communication and interpersonal skills and carry out detailed work accurately.

The individual will need to be able to use his or her own initiative, work effectively within multi-disciplinary team and seek guidance or support when appropriate.

Your patients will mostly be outpatients and day cases and inpatients for investigation and treatment.


The post-holder will need to demonstrate a good understanding of Parkinson's disease and a willingness to work with a wide range of patients and staff.

Previous experience working in neurology and Parkinson's disease in the NHS or research setting is advantageous.

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner to deliver an expert care/ service within this highly specialist area of Parkinson's Disease
  • To support Movement Disorders Consultants with New and F/U patients
  • To manage a caseload of patients/clients with Parkinson's Disease
  • To lead the development of evidence based clinical practice in line with current research and guidelines
  • To establish clear lines of communication with primary and secondary healthcare teams in order to increase specialist knowledge and facilitate care for patients with Parkinson's Disease
  • To Support multidisciplinary team meetings (MDMs).

  • All the following are to be carried out while working in close collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team under the guidance of the consultants
  • To demonstrate clinical expertise within the specialty and work autonomously, managing own allocated clinics independently and seeking guidance/support when necessary
  • To co-ordinate the specialty care within the Trust including outreach clinics within the region
  • To become an essential member, and point of contact and resource, for the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Carries out diagnostic/therapeutic interventions as an independent practitioner, interprets, writes reports and commences further possible treatment based on findings.
  • Carries out complex therapeutic/ investigational procedures under indirect supervision of the consultant including device aided therapies in Parkinson's disease. Ensuring that they are carried out using safe practice and under agreed guidelines/protocols to ensure highest possible standard is obtained based on competent clinical practice.
  • To demonstrate the ability to develop new skills, to provide an expert high quality service.
  • To provide ongoing follow up care and support (telephone support/ PD lead clinics / and advice for inpatients with Parkinson's disease.
