    Job summary

    We are delighted to invite you to apply for the ConsultantPsychiatrist post with the Home Treatment Team (HTT), General Adult Directoratebased at The Cedars, Exeter. This service is for patients age 18-65 years old caring for the population in the Exeter area and some surrounding post is full-time however part-time/job-shareapplicants are welcome.

    The Trust is committed to recruiting and retaining high calibreconsultants by supporting an agile and productive working force. There is a possibilityfor a hybrid working pattern. Extra PA's are available and negotiable for clinical, research, innovation,teaching, medical management and other special interests.

    Within the Exeter HTT, there is another team caring for adifferent catchment area, led by another Consultant Psychiatrist who providessimilar services. Patient safety and Quality Improvement are key aspects of therole and training will be provided if required.

    This post is suitable for a first time NHS consultant, or anexisting or post-retirement consultant with a broad level of general adultpsychiatric expertise. International candidates are welcome to apply.Experience of working in adult community mental health services is preferablebut support will be given to doctors wishing to move from other psychiatricspecialties or roles.

    Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable butthose who would be eligible eg doctors applying from abroad, will be supportedto obtain this authority.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful applicantwill offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients being managed by theExeter Home Treatment Team, as well as other expert clinical services insupport of patients and their families/carers as necessary. They will alsoprovide leadership to the wider HTT and participate in ensuring the care flowof patients through the Trust is efficient and patient centred.

    You will take part in on-call rota and other consultantsfrom the area will be expected to provide cross-cover for leave.

    Teaching and Supervision

    Essential

  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of additional teaching skills.

    Essential

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Desirable

  • MRCPsych.
  • Other professional qualification
  • (eg CBT, PSI, CAT ).
  • CCT in General Psychiatry.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Prior experience working in a Community Mental Health Team.
  • Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community.
  • Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of development of special interest in Community based Psychiatry.
  • Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
  • Aptitudes

    Essential

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of ability to exercise leadership in a multi-disciplinary team.
