    Description

The Mencap Trust Company The Royal Mencap Society is a leading charity in the United Kingdom that works with people who have a learning disability to provide support, services, and campaigning to help make the UK the best place in the world for people with a learning disability to live happy and healthy lives.

The Mencap Trust Company ("MTC") is an independent subsidiary of the Royal Mencap Society.

MTC acts as a trustee of discretionary trusts for people with a learning disability or autism, providing a secure financial future for beneficiaries.

The company supports families in setting up trusts, ensuring that their loved ones with a learning disability are supported financially after the parents or caregivers are no longer able to do so.

The trust funds managed by MTC are used to make a real difference to the quality of life of the person with a learning disability, protecting the funds from the risks of financial abuse without affecting entitlement to means-tested benefits.

As a Board Member, you will share responsibility for the effective governance and oversight of MTC and its activities.

In addition, your key contribution will be providing financial and accounting expertise and oversight within the main Board and Finance Committee.

This will revolve around the activities of financial planning and forecasting, managing trusts, investments and properties held in trust, and steering the small staff team at MTC to sustainably grow the trust company to support more families.

The individual applying for this role should be ACA-qualified with experience in financial planning and reporting and, ideally, small business operations.

Prior experience in trust management and investment would be highly beneficial.

Currently, a small number of trusts contain property and this is a potential area for growth in the future - as such experience working in property management and the real estate sector would be beneficial.

A personal connection or individual motivation for helping advance the lives of those living with a learning disability is key.

Quarterly Board meetings are held in London but can be dialed in if necessary, quarterly finance committee meetings are held remotely.
