Description

The Clinical Fellow posts will work on the middle grade rota providing labour ward and emergency gynaecology cover at the RAEI site to include resident night and weekend shifts.

They will work in gynaecology outpatients and antenatal clinics on both Leigh and Thomas Linacre Centre sites.


They will have specific interest sessions that they will undertake on a regular basis which may include Colposcopy and Menopause clinics & benign gynaecological surgery with the ability to develop their expertise in these areas.

Planning and Organisational Duties


The appointees will be based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, but will be required to support the Trust's Obs & Gynae workload wherever it is located.

The appointee will work under supervision of their clinical and educational supervisor. The appointee will work independently but would be supported by consultant surgeon. Appointees shall be provided for support career progression and would be allocated a clinical supervisor

The general workload includes dealing with emergency admission while on-call and elective cases.


The appointees will be responsible for:
Providing specialist advice to patients regarding their illness

Participate in on-call rota

Undertake regular ward rounds

Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Clinical Director / Clinical/Educational Supervisor

Responsibility for Teaching


All staff are encouraged to take part in clinical audit process; and to also make appropriate use of the 10 days per year study leave.

The Trust supports study leave for continuing professional development and provides assistance with funding up to an agreed limit.

An educational supervisor will be allocated to this post and regular clinical and educational appraisals are undertaken.

There is a post-graduate centre and medical reference library on the Wigan site.

Educational opportunities are offered for this post, at both a formal and informal level.

This entails compliance with Trust Infection Prevention and Control policy and related Standard Operating Procedure (SOP's); along with risk assessment of all situations; as staff have a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts
