    Job summary

    Kingston Hospital is looking to recruit a Senior trust Doctor (ST3+)in General Surgery for a period of 12 months. The General Surgery department is a large department with 14 consultants, supported by 9 specialist registrars and 11 Core trainees and trust grades.

    Main duties of the job

    There are 2 dedicated surgical wards, comprising 50 inpatient beds; and surgery also use a 22 bedded short stay ward. The hospital has 8 inpatient theatres; 4 day surgery theatres, 2 minor operations suites (with a further 2 in development)

    Kingston Hospital Department of Surgery has a busy oncall take as well as one of the best laparoscopic Cholecystectomy services Nationally.

    The majority of our patient services are based at Kingston Hospital, however, outreach clinics are held at a number of community hospitals including Surbiton, Teddington and Molesey Registrars are responsible for managing the care of patients in an inpatient, outpatient and theatre setting and for the ongoing management of patients admitted under their team.

    Job responsibilities

    There is a recent abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR) service developed with a variety of procedures done including an extraperitoneal approach of ventral hernias repair.

    In Kingston Hospital we developed a 7-day-per-week service with operating theatre lists running on Saturday in DSU and outpatient clinics and endoscopy running on Saturday and Sunday.

    Medical Education is well developed in our department with opportunities to take part in research and multinational audits present.

  • Primary Medical Qualification
  • Registered with GMC
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of academic distinction: Prizes; Awards; BSc, BA etc
  • PG qualifications; MSc or PhD
  • MRCS examination by date of appointment
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Completed CCore Surgical Training (2 years) or equivalent
  • 6 months of relevant experience within the NHS
  • ATLS provider course
  • BSS Course or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of contribution to Audit/Research
  • Evidence of contribution to Teaching
  • CCrlSP Course
  • Basic Laparoscopic Course or equivalent
  • Able to perform Laparoscopic appendicectomy under supervision
  • Able to perform open inguinal hernia repair under supervision
