    Salary Base salary: £30150pa to c.£37,700pa (Birmingham) c£33,850 to c£42,350pa (London) depending on skills and experience.     As HS2 enters its next exciting phase of railway systems delivery, we are thrilled to launch our recruitment to grow our client project management team. We are looking for talented project managers of all levels to lead delivery across the railway systems portfolio.

    We are growing our team as in the coming months, we will be awarding major railway systems contracts including:

    • Overhead catenary systems
    • SCADA systems
    • Signalling
    • Telecommunications
    • Track
    • Washwood Heath rolling stock maintenance depot

    In addition to discipline-specific roles, we are also recruiting for our programme integration team. We welcome applications from individuals with rail sector experience as well as those looking to change industry.

    As an Assistant Project Manager at HS2 you will be responsible for providing project management support to the Senior Project Manager / Project Manager (Rail Systems) and the Rail Systems Programme

    About the role:

    • To be responsible for providing project management support to one or more of the Rail Systems Senior Project Managers / Project Managers for their allocated project.
    • To be responsible for supporting in the successful delivery of Railway Systems objectives outcomes.
    • To be responsible for contract management support for Railway Systems
    • Interface with relevant Railway Systems stakeholders, for their particular project, as required
    • To support the monitoring of the change generated from both the Construction/Delivery teams is appropriately managed; including scope changes and cost changes that impact on the affordability of the project, escalating issues to the Senior Project / Project Manager as required
    • To support robust reporting on the progression of their project deliverables to the Senior Project Manager/ Project Manager and more broadly within the Railway systems programme at any required forums / panels, on a routine and ad hoc basis
    • To support the Senior Project Manager / Project Manager for ensuring that project plans are developed, maintained and analysed in order to identify and mitigate delivery risks
    • To support the Senior Project Manager / Project Manager in identifying and ensuring that appropriate mitigating actions are implemented to address potential milestone slippages and escalating issues as required
    • Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

    About You:

    Skills:

    • Project management - the ability to plan and integrate programmes of work and effectively manage those projects.
    • Collaboration Skills - ability to interact with Programme/Project Managers and colleagues in many different disciplines across HS2 to achieve successful outcomes.
    • Communication and Influencing Skills - ability to produce clear communications which engage and influence colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels.
    • Reporting - ability to provide reports for internal and external governance forums.
    • Computer literate and proficient at using Office productivity and team working applications

    Knowledge:

    • Understanding of project and programme management.
    • Understanding of how businesses and organisations operate, their role(s) within them, and how they contribute effectively as part of a team.

    Type of Experience:

    • Experience in a business/commercial environment
    • Experience of developing management competencies within a project or programme.
