    ABOUT YOU

    We have an opportunity for a technician to join our Sour Service Team with our Intertek CAPCIS business in Manchester. The roles involve performing corrosion and materials tests, recording test results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and working to high standards of safety and quality and good housekeeping. Please note, this role is based full time on-site in Manchester in our offices in Trafford Park.

    Required skills and experience:
    • Experience in a science laboratory environment.
    • Experience of metallographic techniques, metallurgical, mechanical or physical chemical testing would be an advantage.
    • Experience with handling chemicals.
    • Experience in an ISO17025 laboratory setting an advantage.
    • Good general education such as A levels, BTech, HNC including science or engineering subjects with good written and verbal communication.
    • Computer literate and familiar with MS Office applications
    • Flexible approach and ability to work across groups in a cooperative manner and maintain desired standard of work.

    ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

    Key activities:
    • Interaction with sample tracking databases.
    • Preparation of individual test job sheets.
    • Performing corrosion-based testing to an acceptable standard and in accordance with established procedures.
    • Maintaining accurate records of observations and calculations.
    • Preparation (e.g. cutting, drilling, polishing) of metallic test specimens.
    • Handling of chemicals required during testing in accordance with COSHH, and health and safety risk assessments.
    • The role entails manual handling, use of hand and power tools, moving of 50 l gas cylinders.
    • Safe handling and use of hazardous and non-hazardous bottled gases including hydrogen sulfide.
    • Cleaning, preparation, maintenance, and operation of a variety of laboratory equipment including test vessels and electronic devices.
    • Metallographic preparation of samples for examination post-test, including the microscopy and photography of samples.
    • Drafting of test result certificates.
    • Applying discretionary effort in support of the smooth running of projects and of the laboratories.
