    Job summary

    Our ward clerks are key to the service we provide to children and families attending Sophie's Place and Northbrook ward. They are often the first people families meet: giving a friendly and professional greeting, checking them in for their appointment and answering any queries or questions they may have. Our ward clerk team work closely with our nursing and medical teams to ensure that patients have the care they require and that our outpatients clinics run smoothly

    Our team cover a range of shift patterns including earlies, lates and long days. Short weekend shifts are also part of our pattern

    Main duties of the job

  • Candidate must have the ability to prioritize own workload as well as working as part of a team.
  • Candidate must be an enthusiastic and energetic person to join our friendly, hardworking clerical team.
  • Candidate must be able to keep calm under pressure and in particular be able to deal sympathetically with children and families
  • Candidate must be flexible to support Nursing and Admin staff around the unit.
  • Require IT skills to work with NHS IT systems
  • To have the flexibility to liaise with patients, relatives, clinicians and medical secretaries in all departments throughout the Trust to ensure that a high quality service is provided to all users.

    Training & Qualifications

    Essential

  • GCSE or Equivalent Grade c or above in English
  • Desirable

  • ECDL or other equivalent IT qualification
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification within administration
  • Experience & Knowledge

    Essential

  • Previous Clerical experience, including telephone skills
  • IT literate
  • Experience of working in a busy customer focused environment
  • Experience of dealing with a range of challenging situations, on telephone and in person
  • Desirable

  • Previous experience in NHS/ Health Sector
  • Previous administration experience in a hospital environment.
  • Understanding of medical terminology
