    Our Edinburgh based client is growing their team and looking for an Optoelectronics Engineer to join them. You will be expected to design and develop cutting-edge photonic transceiver devices and solutions that enable our client's world leading product roadmap. You will also be expected to keep abreast of new developments in the fields of emitter and detector technologies and evaluate device samples as appropriate. You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team of around 50 people based in Edinburgh and world-wide.

    You will make an impact by:

    • Working closely with the product development team to define and deliver the next generation photonic technologies.
    • Identifying and evaluating candidates for future emitter and detector solutions.
    • Maintaining and further developing optical link budget/model simulations.
    • Liaising with 3rd party technology vendors.
    • Assisting with the development and execution of test procedures for photonic components/subsystems.
    • Writing and maintaining design documentation and test reports as appropriate.
    • Promoting deeper knowledge of photonic devices/technologies within the wider company.

    You'll thrive if you have:

    Essential

    • Post-graduate degree in Optics, Optoelectronics, Physics, or similar.
    • Solid understanding of the physics and electronics behind the operation of various photonic detector technologies.
    • Good understanding of digital communication concepts.
    • Good experience with simulation tools such as Matlab and Zemax.
    • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with both commercial and technical employees.
    • A self-starter attitude with analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills.

    Desirable

    • Solid commercial industry engineering experience in the field of photonics or optical device design
    • LASER safety training and familiarity with relevant optoelectronic standards (e.g., IEC
    • Hardware design experience including schematic capture and PCB layout.
    • Experience working with high volume commercial products.
